Rob Teszka, almost-PhD of magic, presents a fun magic show about failure! Enjoy a mindblowing cocktail of tongue-in-cheek takes on everything from Mai Tais to burnout. Experience the unexpected results of Rob's magic psychology research, his emotional escape from the maze of academia, and laugh in the face of failure!
Rob Teszka is both hilarious and earnest in this magic show about failure. Throughout the show while dazzling you with magic tricks (that are extremely impressive) Rob as well as the audience accumulate failures. This may seem bad, but by the end you’ll learn that it’s okay to fail and that maybe what looks like failure is actually another kind of success. I used loop quiet earplugs and a tangle; there was one moment where I wished I had also been wearing sunglasses as there was a dramatic light change and it got a bit loud. I really appreciated hearing about Rob's experience with and outlook on academia and how it is often exclusionary, especially if your brain works a bit different. And although Rob might be deemed a failure by some, his show is a definite success.
A heartfelt journey of finding triumph and truth in failure. With charm and wit -- and moments of chaotic self-doubt as he questions everything he thought he knew -- Rob takes the audience through his call to academics, disillusionment with what he found there, and how he came out the other side. Magic tricks woven throughout the narrative will delight and amaze. Come ready to laugh in the face of failure!
I expected this magic show to be something much different. A discourse on higher education and how it does not prepare anyone for life so he cleverly didn't continue. It was not. Also, much profanity.
Magic Dropout is a magic show, but it's also just as much full of laugh-out-loud comedy and genuine storytelling. Rob Teszka is incredibly funny right from the start, filling the show with witty and snappy jokes. The show is built around crowd work, bringing many people on stage who became characters in the story he was telling, an honest look into how failure affects us. If you're looking for tons of laughs from a charming and engaging performer with plenty of cool magic tricks, check this show out!
