Confessions of a Corporate Clown written and performed by Eric Regimbald and directed by Matthew Gouvia tells the story about one mans experience working as a clown for a big food chain in Canada from the time he was hired to the end of his clown career. This hilarious one man show is one you don't want to miss. Regimbald is a seasoned showman who knows how to keep an audience entertained. His acting choices and prop use were well thought out really adding to the clown vibe of the show. He made use of the audience as well, moving up and down the isles and even asking for some volunteers to help him during one part of the show. He kept the energy high the whole show. The show itself was such an intriguing concept and it was really great to be able to see that that idea translated extremely well for play. The show made me want to dig deeper into the history of the real clown this show was based off of. You don't want to miss this heartfelt comedy! You can catch Confessions of a Corporate Clown at the Edmonton Fringe August 21st-24th, 2025 at the Lumos Dental Stage.

See It Again

All The Kings Men: Mansplaining with Drag Kings is a comedic show produced by Sorry Not Sorry Improv is a hilarious one hour live ‘podcast’ where six Drag Kings give the audience advice on everything from relationships to the best way to bulk up. The cast are pros as setting up sketches and thinking on their feet. They work well together, building off each other. One of the hardest parts about an unscripted show is that it’s well - unscripted but this crew’s performances felt so clean that you almost forget that the whole show is merely built on the spot. The group got in to character with such ease, never breaking once. This was my first ever drag show and I didn’t know what to expect but I found my self laughing the whole time, as did the audience. One of the funnest improv shows I’ve seen in awhile. The show was entirely sold out, not a single seat was left unclaimed. Grab your tickets to All The Kings Men: Mainsplaining with Drag Kings while you still can at the Edmonton Fringe August 18th - 24th, 2025 at the Sugar Swing Ballroom.

Mr. Tilly's Seance written by Scott C. Bourgeois and directed by Anita Bourgeois is a hilarious show that takes place in the 1920s where four friends who attend a seance at Ms. Cumerbach’s salon in hopes of reconnecting with their newly dead colleague, Mr. Tilly. The interaction between the cast and their characters felt so natural, you could tell that they are friends not just in the show but in real life as well. Once the audience adjusted to the shows pacing there were sounds of laughter all throughout the room. The stunning lighting design created some cool images during the show, specifically the use of red lighting to illuminate the ritual. From tassels, to floral print to loose flowy dresses and bow ties. The costumes, true to the era were so much fun and featured so many different colors and textures. Kudos to the cast and crew of this show for creating such a unique experience for audiences! This is show perfect is sure to entertain the whole family. You can catch Mr Tilly’s Seance at the Edmonton Fringe August 18-24, 2025 at the Sugar Swing Ballroom.

Romeo and Juliet’s Notebook written by Aimée Beaudoin and Jeff Halaby and directed by John Hudson is a modern adaptation of the classic Shakespearian tale but with a Edmontonian twist. When two star crossed lovers, Romeo Yellowhead and Juliet Henday meet by chance at a party, they decide to secretly get married despite their families ongoing feud. The show features an array of popular tunes with the occasional re write to make the lyrics fit the show. This parody will knock your socks off. Its a funny, witty, well thought out show that features a talented cast of thespians. One of my favorite parts of the show is when Romeo is supposed to banished to SPOILER Leduc for a crime he committed but instead is to be sent to Drayton Valley. The spotlights and use of the projector created some amazing silhouette’s throughout the show of the two lovers during their scenes. The actors made good use of the space, not only using the stage, but the space that was in front of the stage, even walking up and down the isles interacting with the audience. Overall, this show is a foot tapping, gut splitting parody you don’t want to miss. You can catch Romeo and Juliet’s Notebook at the Edmonton Fringe Festival August 17 - 24th 2025.

Free Pony is a solo comedy show written and performed by Phil Schallberger. This hilarious show features three different comedic sketches that take place at a global investment conference. And yes, I can confirm that you will get a free pony for attending. Honestly one of my favorite shows I’ve seen at the fringe so far. The shows premise is simple enough but Schallberger knows how to keep audiences on their toes. Each sketch features an eccentric character trying to pitch something to the audience using a power point slideshow that helps further give audiences a deeper understanding of who each character is beyond their pitch. As a writer, Schallberger knows how to write a sketch that both shock and captivates audiences. Similar to how SNL write their skits, this show was the perfect amount of premise and improv. This is a show that is honestly better if you don’t know anything about it beforehand. Half the fun of this show is wondering if you’re actually getting a pony or not. If you’re looking for a good laugh, Free Pony is the perfect show to remind you not to take life so seriously. You can catch Free Pony at the Edmonton Fringe August 16th - 24th, 2025.

You’ve Been Served is a one woman show written and performed by Noemi Zeigler about a woman who gets served divorce papers, inspiring her to re visit her dreams of being a famous singer. When a record producer takes notice to her demos she takes trip to Vegas to meet him, embarking on a chaos filled trip. Filled with laughs, music and the occasional audience participation, Zeigler’s show gives audiences a glimpse at one woman's healing journey as she searches for the love shes always yearned. While entertaining, the plays pacing felt a bit uneven often leaving audiences to retrace how the story got where it was. Nevertheless, Zeigler kept audiences entertained, wondering what would happen next. You’ve Been Served is an at times relatable, engaging piece that is worth seeing with a group of your closest friends. You can catch the show at the Edmonton Fringe from August 17th - 19th, 2025 at The Gateway Theater.

Laughed So Hard I Cried

Killed To Death written and directed by Megan Holt is a hilarious ode to the murder mystery genre for fans for Clue and The Play That Goes Wrong. The show which is produced by Sutton Theater Company is about a Hollywood couple whose soap opera begins to tank, causing them to flee to the countryside where old friends - and foes come to visit, bringing past events to light. But when one of their guests ends up dead it is up to them to figure out whodunnit. The actors in the show were outstanding in their roles, their energy staying consistent throughout the entirety of their performances. The use of physical comedy throughout the show ensured that there was not one part of the stage going unused. Something to highlight from this production is the costumes. I thought they were such great choices for each character and helped further develop them and their personas. The live piano accompaniment enhanced the dramatic comical atmosphere of the show, adding another layer to the story. The audience was roaring with laughter, not one person left that theater without smiling ear to ear. Without giving any spoilers, the ending will have you pleasantly surprised (or you might roll your eyes). Killed To Death is a humorous murder mystery that adults and kids alike can enjoy. Catch the show at the Edmonton Fringe Festival August 15 - 24th 2025 at the Walterdale Theater.

See It Again

Hearts Left Open written and directed by Lee-Ana Semenyna and assistant directed by Mike Leoppky is an raw and emotional play about two women who start out as strangers but as time passes become family. The play, produced by Heart and Ash Productions takes place in the hallway of a childhood cancer floor at a hospital, following two women through the highs and lows that they and their loved ones fighting cancer have to endure. It’s a show that makes it’s audience laugh, cry and root for these children and their families. With every bit of bad news given by the doctors our hearts sink and with every good bit of news the audience couldn’t help but smile knowing that even in the darkest times, the is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel. The cast put so much care and love into their roles bringing the doctors, nurses and loved ones and their stories to life. Semenyna perfectly balanced the darker moments in the play with the hope and graciousness formed by the hospital staff, patients and loved ones. The show’s set was beautifully crafted, with children's art hanging on the wall, with one coloring page in particular showing the month being swapped out regularly to signify the time passing. If you have the chance to go see this touching play, it is definitely worth checking out. Just make sure you have some tissues on hand. You can catch Hearts Left Open at the Edmonton Fringe Festival August 15th - 24th, 2025 at the Nordic Studio Theater.

I’m Actually Right About Everything: A Bisexual Love Story is a one woman show performed and written by Tracy Hamilton. The play is a humorous, heart warming solo performance all about friendship, queerness and accepting who you are as told by Hamilton, with the occasional comment from her “Gut Feeling”. It’s a relatable, laugh out loud show that captivated audiences right from the get go. I was in awe of how quickly the show seemed to go by. Hamilton does a phenomenal job at ensuring everyone in the crowd hung onto every word she said. From toxic friendships and creepy exes to falling in love at your friends destination wedding in Italy - She is a natural born storyteller that knows a thing or two about how the importance organizing ones thoughts without losing the integrity of what she wanted say. The minimalist set allowed the audience's imaginations to run wild and put the picture to the dialogue being spoken. I’m Actually Right About Everything: A Bisexual Love Story is the queer show that you didn’t know you needed to see but will be glad you did. You can catch the show at the Edmonton Fringe August 15th - 24th, 2025 at the Chianti Yardbird Suite.

Dressing Room Requiem gives audiences a behind the scenes look of the dressing room of a theater company in the aftermath of their show’s abrupt cancellation. This musical, put on by Pop Goes To The Opera is directed by Glynis Price, who also stage managed, designed and performed in the production. The show featured some dazzling vocals by the ensemble cast, including some outstanding solos that even non opera lovers can appreciate. That being said, it seems as if the group’s focus was more on the music itself than fleshing out the actual story. Nevertheless, you could tell the cast put a lot of time and care into every tune and what character development they did have. One downside to the show’s venue was the fact that their dialogue at times was drowned out by the piano’s transitions into the next song. The show would have been a better fit at a venue with less echo so audiences could overall hear everything more clearly. The final song was a moving piece called ‘Nessun Dorma’, in which the cast and crew of the show said their goodbyes to the theater. It’s a bittersweet moment that anyone who’s been a part of a show themselves can understand and connect with. Overall, Dressing Room Requiem is a show that balances a lot of heart with the cast’s (and the audiences) admiration for opera music. You can catch the show at the Edmonton Fringe Festival from August 14th - 24th 2025.
