A Never-Ending Story

This one never pulled me in. Lots of effort put into the objects around the room (which you are encouraged to explore) but the overall format didn't really work for me. Perhaps it would have been more compelling if there was a live performer instead of just a video of a woman talking? At the end of the 30 minutes you are asked to contribute and exchange a song (you are given pen and paper as you enter the little performance space) which did get us to engage a little bit with the idea of the piece, but it wasn't enough. In the end, I liked the idea behind this piece more than the actual execution.

What a treat! I knew this was going to be a good one just listening to the talented cast and musicians warming up while we were waiting to be let up to the rooftop tent performance space. They pulled off an ambitious survey of Shakespeare's plays and a variety of styles of music with talent and energy to spare. It was fast paced, with funny shout outs to local people and places in true Shakespearean style and some great songs too. Loved this one! *The funniest moment was Juliet first having to get louder and louder to contend with the obnoxious motorcycles revving in the street below, then getting to deliver the line about hearing "some noises within." Shakespeare for the win!

Luminarium was a lovely way to begin my Fringe this year! It was a magical mash up of juggling, dance, and postapocalyptic, slightly steampunk whimsy, with the added bonus of things that glow in the dark . Delightful.
