A Conversation With Myself
A Conversation with Myself offered an insight into the private musings and reflections of people who took the time to sit and be still, and listen to their own inner conversations. The play evokes many emotions from the viewers through the dialogue of four talented actors. There is an intensity and a balance to the performance. I am sure that it has been a great conversation started for everyone who attended...it certainly was for me. I would highly recommend it! S Ennis
I was surprised how moved I was by this experience. I found it both thought-provoking and comforting - and somewhat sad - about how common the human experience is in terms of wants and needs and regrets. The actors did a wonderful job each depicting a variety of very diverse characters. I still find myself thinking about some of the real humans behind those roles and wonder how they are doing now. Very well done.
This interactive play left me contemplating all the threads of life around us that we are ignorant of—-those who are struggling, those with unfulfilled dreams and those who share the same feelings of loneliness that comes with life. The play highlights that we are not alone, that being human is hard and that opening up a little can ease that burden. Kudos to the writer, director and actors for giving space for shared humanity in this much-needed time of selfish introspection.
I found this eventually a tiring play to watch and ultimately it was kind of depressing. Some of the acting was good and the stronger performers were able to provide enough variation to be compelling. Similarly, there were a couple of moments when the collected narratives were more detailed and allowed to breathe-- such as when the couple talked about caring for their son-- and these really resonated. However the comments making up the majority of the play mostly just blended into a two note chorus documenting either vague promises to 'leave the world better than I found it' or a sad monotonous drumbeat of loneliness. I feel like the expectation is that it might be wonderful to find out that everyone feels deeply disconnected (hurah!). It isn't. Most of the quotes and commentary were so similar and non specific that it was just monotonous. A missed opportunity to really explore
This was an incredible creative expression for the human heart to have a conversation with oneself. It allowed one to discover and relate to the narratives and stories shared and the interaction made me feel like part of the show in a special way.
It highlighted mental health and the importance of connection and a safe space to express all that is inside to express. It was moving and the actors were great.
This show was a special one for me as my dog, named Love recently passed away, and it brought me to tears when my share was read by one of the actors in the play. It reminded me that I'm not alone through my grieving and in essence, we are all never alone.
Highly recommend this refreshing and deeply moving experience. Congratulations Michael and the entire production.
As my first fringe experience this performance set the bar high. I loved the depth in the process the writer had an the outside the box thinking about what a perfomance can be. It straddles the line of something that belongs in a gallery and on the stage. A roller coaster of emotions concluded by a feeling that you're not alone 👏👏👏
This is a "must see" with great psychological depth on our common humanity and the challenges of living in a big and busy city like Toronto - where one rarely has a moment to reflect on what is important, like this show gives us the space to do. I highly recommend it!
A Conversation with Myself was a very fun and introspective experience! Seeing the interactive art instillation come to life through the actors portraying 98 characters was amazing and gave more depth to both forms of artwork. The play allows you to think about the struggles/desires you have while simultaneously helping you feel connected to the community around you by the sharing pieces of other's internal monologue that you can connect with. Definitely a thought provoking piece and a great watch!
Even now, I'm still thinking about A Conversation with Myself. When the show ended, my friend and I both walked away feeling incredibly grateful.
What struck me most was how universal the emotions were—doubt, regret, hope, longing, and all the quiet conversations we have with ourselves. Michael wove these experiences together in such an honest and moving way that it reminded me something we often forget: almost everyone is carrying a heavy weight, much of it invisible and deeply painful.
I hope one of the lasting takeaways for audiences is that we're all doing the best we can. If we truly understood that, perhaps we'd all have a little more compassion for one another. And when you remember that it was created from an installation that was made for a sacred, quiet space for people to reflect. Quite amazing! Thank you, Michael, for creating such a thoughtful, powerful, and unforgettable piece. It was an amazing experience.
We really enjoyed this play. Four talented actors brought dozens of distinct personalities to life, offering a fascinating peek into people’s inner worlds. It was enlightening to see both the diversity and the shared humanity of the characters.
A moving compilation of thoughts people had when they were sitting completely alone (no outside distractions) and asked to complete sentences beginning with "I hope, I wish, I love, I regret, I want" or even just "I". The responses, given voice so memorably by the four actors, showed the range of human experience, and the joint emotions we share.
Built from verbatim, introspective responses to multiple iterations of the same photograph, the premise is compelling, but the writing repeatedly overstates its themes rather than trusting the audience to find meaning. The cast delivers nuanced, deeply committed performances, while the direction suggests a more evocative production struggling to emerge. One leaves admiring the artists on stage and imagining how much more powerful the piece could have been had the script embraced greater restraint.
A Conversation with Myself is a powerful and deeply moving play that stayed with me long after the performance ended.
The characters share their hopes, fears, dreams, and personal struggles—feelings that are universal and easy to relate to. What I found most compelling, however, was the play's central message: our emotions and worries need another person who is willing to ask, listen, and truly care. Without that connection, our thoughts remain trapped inside us, where they can grow into anxiety and isolation.
The four actors delivered this message with remarkable authenticity and sensitivity. Their performances were heartfelt and engaging.
A Conversation with Myself is more than just a play—it is a beautiful reminder that genuine human conversation and empathy are essential. I highly recommend it.
This was one of those shows that stays with you long after you leave the theatre. Hours later, I was still thinking about it, which is probably the highest compliment I can give.
The concept is creative, the performances feel authentic, and the conversations are both thought-provoking and surprisingly relatable. I especially loved the moments where the "acting notes" became part of the character's internal dialogue.
What resonated with me most was how the show normalizes the thoughts and emotions we often keep to ourselves. It creates space for self-reflection without ever feeling preachy, and I think many people will see parts of themselves in it.
A memorable, clever, and heartfelt production. Congratulations to everyone involved! I genuinely hope this show reaches an even wider audience.
A deeply moving production that left me feeling part of something much larger than myself. What makes this performance so remarkable is that the dialogue is drawn entirely from the reflections of visitors to the original art installation, giving voice to an incredibly diverse range of people and experiences. It's honest, heartfelt, and deeply human. I highly recommend seeing this performance.
A moving collection of vignettes that theatrically share people's experience with a real-life art installation. An intimate reflection of the human experience, of longing, loving, and living. I recommend seeing this show.
