Laughed So Hard I Cried

This show was brilliant-- Iwanyk is extremely talented at setting up his participants for jokes and making his own. The energy and timing from everyone involved in the production was impeccable. Improv and comedy can be very hit-or-miss; this show didn't miss. It does rely a fair bit on audience participation/crowdwork-- the emersion and how it was set up were very well done. Supremely weird and hillarious.

Weirdly, the venue had a really strong smell this time, so wear a mask if you go. The show had some gags that made me laugh out loud, but I think they relied too much on audience participation. Would’ve loved a bit more structure and punch-ups from the artist.

See It Again

What can I say to the spellbinding, mind-blowing, quick-wit Andrew Iwanyk of the Iwanyk Institute but, thank you sir for fulfilling my dream of seeing an impeccable improvised Fringe show. So many times I go to an improv show and feel like I have just spent 60 minutes of wasted time, watching moss grow, not at this show. I was laughing for 60 minutes. Sometimes laughing at something that shouldn't be funny, but with Andrew's golden touch, becomes hilarious! Andrew, I dare to say, is a genius performer, and his show is elevated by the work of director Lief Olsen-Cormack. (Who knew Lief had such a wonderful singing voice?). Go see this, go see this twice or thrice, it will be a new wild ride every show! I now have a signed picture of Andrew Iwanyk in my dining room, another dream come true.

It feels cliche to describe every weird comedian as " some kind of Andy Kaufman" but if there's ever been a performer in Edmonton who carries that same Spirit of weirdness, unpredictability, And authentically emotion-inspiring art, it would be Andrew Iwanyk. He just swirls through hilarity and cringe, somehow feeling both rehearsed and obviously a product of spontaneous chaos.

You could go see this show for every single performance and each one would be strange, unique, and bizarre, and worth seeing.

Mind Blown

Andrew Iwanyk warned me not to review this show unless it was 5 stars, but gosh darn it, i'm gonna do it.

Wacky, unhinged weirdness. Plenty of Audience interaction (as it is the premise of the show, one audience member gets their dream fulfilled.) Absolutely hilarious bits from minute 1 to minute 'The End'. I dare not spoil anything about this show, as it would ruin the magic of this experience. Simply put: GO SEE IT!!

60 Minutes: Dreams and Calories Burned

Andrew warned not to review this show, but I’m doing it anyway because it is certainly a new wave of stand-up comedy!

At the mere amount of 13 dollars and the extra fees that the production “has no control of” (exact words), a lucky audience member had her dreams fulfilled alongside living her entire life in the span of not even 60 minutes!

Although it was not my wish that was fulfilled that night, I’m sure I just burned more calories than anyone could ever hope to because thanks to how quick-witted and hilarious Andrew Iwanyk is as and because of the very participative, vibrant, and comedic crowd (seriously, everyone in that room are comedians)—I felt like I was an audience at a TV show. If you want to fulfill your dreams by being a millionaire comedian, see Elton John perform, feel like you’re at a funnier and more interactive version of SNL, and channel your inner villain laugh, this show is a perfect fit for you as it runs at venue 34: The Faculty Events Centre until August 21st!
