Crucified Woman

Crucified Woman stands at Emmanuel College as a reminder of the violence experienced by women. Acclaimed author Margaret Laurence viewed her and professed that she believed in God. While Crucified Woman was critiqued in the court of public opinion, Laurence's books were under threat. Together they tell the story of Crucified Woman.

See It Again

I’ll go see a second time, the rich content—and a personal connection, I went to school downriver of Laurence’s home; and I was in her house as it stood after her death, saw details of her kitchen. Great to see Margaret on stage at her kitchen table. Accomplished writing, bringing Timothy Findley into the narrative. Beautiful dance sequence. Demands a bigger production, perhaps in Peterborough? Though I’d like less United Church, and more of the Otonabee, where Margaret had her cabin: “The river flowed both ways.”

I thoroughly enjoyed the play. The actors were very versatile and the pace was excellent. It deepened my knowledge and experience of two works of art with which I am familiar.

There should be a choice of "I carried it away with me" in the Reaction list. I'm now planning to see the sculpture and dive into "The Diviners". Congratulations to Jeffrey Dale and the cast, particularly Carling, Khadija and Gino.
