Elon Muskrat
He speaks to slot machines. He's here with his chainsaw to CUT YOU A DEAL! Elon Muskrat is selling his new casino and YOU can be the lucky buyer. From “star storyteller Josh Languedoc” (Liz Nichols), author of Rocko and Nakota (*****), this show explores what floats on the surface of power and what hides beneath it.
Māori from Aotearoa, New Zealand here!!! This show was brilliant, thought provoking and unapologetically real! Josh brought healing, laughter and light to the world as we know it. I understood and felt every second of it. This show would land very well in my country! From the chainsaw, to the traditional story telling to the impeccable sales pitch and that song and those dance moves - it was the vibe that has inspired change in my home and world. I need to take my friends and family to this show, pronto! Ngā mihi maioha/kinanaskomitin.
It’s a full show that gives you a true indigenous experience with hilarity and storytelling. A must see.
Elon Muskrat is on a one man stage show. When you walk into the theatre you will have a smell of smudge. Josh does present the character of Elon Muskrat through a sales pitch and song. You can hear Josh throughout with the use of a mic and non mic moments. During some parts he will raise his voice, similar to wrestling announcers. At the start of the play there is a toy chainsaw. It will light up when it makes a noise and be glad that it only happens once. Otherwise the lighting is very simple either a spotlight or one colour. I really enjoyed the incorporation of satire and story telling to bring the social commentary to the play. Josh looks like he is having fun performing and will comment on which jokes land or not.
Josh Languedoc is a master storyteller (we know this). A master parody rapper though!?! What else is this guy hiding!?! Elon Muskrat has a lot to teach us and provides creative commentary on the state of mind that power can put somebody in. It’s fun, it’s funNY, it’s smart, it’s transformative, inventive and a message that everyone needs to hear! Bring us more Josh!!!
A show that passed by in the blink of an eye. Elon Muskrat was an absolute blast. Thanks to an incredible script, and a captivating performance from an amazing story teller, this is one show you won’t wanna miss!
A beautiful and hilarious show, highly recommend!
“Forgiveness, Brought to You By…"
This one-man comedy not only touches on the growing trend of apologies becoming a market product, but shines a spotlight on it. Josh Languedoc’s “Elon Muskrat” perfectly combines elements of political humor, metaphors, and oral storytelling, inviting you into the inner world of how the powerful address the rising issue of reconciliation. The subtle sarcastic jabs at “colonizers” escaping the title of racist by pouring money into the wrong causes highlight the commonplace stigmatism present even today. Flips between sleazily marketer monologues and a mystical animal story of someone who only wanted to help really drill the meaning of the show into the audience, and the ending will leave you as desperate and gutted as the narrator.
One of my favourite shows I’ve seen all year. Languedoc is a brilliant narrator and storyteller and packs his characters full of personality- whether they’re a greasy salesman or a humble beaver. If you’re a fan of cynical political humour, this play is a must!
