Neurohilarity is a wonderfully unpredictable variety show that turns neurodivergent experience into sharp, original comedy without ever feeling like every performer is telling the same joke. Carole Cunningham’s quick, relatable stand-up, Adam Schwartz’s dry and deliberately awkward delivery, and the freewheeling improv of Herding Cats gave the performance an energy that constantly shifted and kept us guessing. With stand-up, improv, music and burlesque sharing the stage, it is loose and chaotic by design, but that unpredictability is a huge part of its charm. Funny, welcoming and unmistakably Fringe, this is a terrific showcase for performers doing comedy entirely on their own terms.

I thought this was a country music variety show. Delightfully surprised. Im certain all of these performers have a shiny box of rocks at home.

If you’re looking for a show that is perfect for a good laugh, then Neurohilatory is for you! It is a crowd-pleasing showcase of entertaining talents from neurodivergent performers.

The show that I saw featured talented stand-up comedians, sketch comedy, dance, singing, and burlesque. The acts differ from show to show, so I would recommend seeing it multiple times to catch different artists.

The performers’ confidence and energy shine throughout the show, demonstrating a clear passion for entertaining their audience. Their strong connection with the crowd makes the performance feel personal and engaging, and the audience’s laughter and enthusiasm are impossible to miss. Each performer brings something unique to the stage while celebrating what makes them different.

Neurohilarity is a wonderful celebration of neurodiversity and the capabilities of every individual. Whether you’re looking for a good laugh or simply want to experience a talented and energetic group of performers, this show is sure to leave you smiling.

Neurohilarity promised clever comedy with a twist, but in the end, it was a swing and a miss.

According to the Fringe description, the cabaret would feature “funny artists with ADHD and Autism” and help audiences “accept and understand those on the autism-ADHD spectrum.” Based on that, I expected a witty performance celebrating neurodivergence and offering insight into those experiences. Instead, the evening unfolded as a series of separate acts. Only one, performed by Adam, the host and director, directly reflected the advertised theme. I found Adam’s performance thoughtful and engaging.

The rest of the show felt disconnected from the description, with some acts straying into unrelated territory such as burlesque. Rather than leaving with a better understanding of neurodivergence, I left feeling that the show didn’t deliver on the expectations it set for itself.

This show was fantastic! As someone who is neurospicy herself, I thought it was an amazing concept full of funny content (and some fun sexy content too!) I would see this show again. By the end, my cheeks hurt from smiling, laughing and hootin-n-hollerin the whole time. Everyone was great, I highly recommend this show.

An Hour of Fast-Paced Fun - Sydney Boisvert

Neurohilarity certainly lives up to its name, offering an hour of brilliantly awkward and sharply funny performances that showcase some of the most talented neurodivergent artists at the Edmonton Fringe. From the very first act, the audience experienced a blend of laughter and connection, drawn in not only by the comedy but also by the authenticity behind it.

The lineup on the night I attended was impressively diverse: a burlesque dancer, a clown, a stand-up comic, and a burlesque performer who also sang. This variety kept the show fresh and unexpected, with each act presenting a unique perspective and energy. Among them, the singer particularly stood out, blending humor with performance in a memorable way.

As hosts, Adam Schwartz and Carole Cunningham brought complementary styles to the stage. Schwartz’s dry, relatable humor set a grounded tone, while Cunningham contrasted it with her lively energy. Together, they maintained a quick pace, seamlessly weaving their stand-up routines between acts with sharp timing and a genuine connection to the audience.

Although the show leaned heavily on stand-up comedy, its fast-paced structure,smoothly transitioning from one performer to the next, kept things lively and engaging. It never felt slow; rather, it built momentum with each act, holding the audience’s attention throughout.

As I left the theater, I felt both entertained and impressed by the sheer range of performances packed into that hour. Neurohilarity is more than just a showcase; it’s a celebration of neurodivergent voices and perspectives, wrapped in comedy that is relatable, surprising, and consistently entertaining. Whether you come for the laughs or the representation, this show truly delivers.

As an autistic arts professional with ADHD, I have never before had the fortune to attend a variety show (let alone any performance) that openly featured a cast of (majority) neurodivergent artists. To finally find myself in a neuro-inclusive space - with an affinity for comedy and loaded to the brim with entertainment - felt nourishing as hell.

The show content is quite adult in nature and will not be suitable every age or sensibility. It wasn’t a relaxed performance by any means, but I still felt like anyone in the audience could attend and exist as they are. Fair warning though: with observant neurodiverse comedians on the mic, none of our foibles or behaviours are off limits. If someone stims or exclaims loudly from the audience, you risk becoming fodder for an onstage jokester.

Props to producer/comedian Adam Schwarts for putting this show together and for building community across multiple prairie cities. Neurohilarity is Winnipeg-based, but they still manage to showcase local and guest artists while on tour. Their bill is a smattering of stand-up sets, comedy sketches (shout out to Sketchy Broads who were guesting) and several glorious burlesque acts that made us all blush and giggle. You might even spot a sexy Sonic the Hedgehog, if that’s your speed…

In a broader culture that regularly punches down on the disabled, it was refreshing to attend an uplifting comedy space where we could rib each other while still recognizing and respecting our shared humanity.

Saw the show as recommended by my girlfriend. It was a fun variety show with many laughs and all kinds of wonderful. Carole was hilarious, the burlesque was fantastic, the whole thing was a good time.

Neurohilarity showcases neurodivergent artists from any discipline. The show that I saw (Aug 16) featured stand-up comedy, red nose clown and burlesque.

Each show will be different so I would recommend catching this multiple times if you can to see different acts from many different artists.

The host of the evening was also very funny with their comedy about living with ADHD.
