Orange you glad to be in Miami?
Bennet sees the crowd at the Stones concert, and he knows. They’re all there for him. They just don’t know it. Later, when he fakes his death to resurrect himself as the New Messiah, he gets arrested. Four psych wards and copious antipsychotics later he’s back in Miami with Mom and Dad. The world’s not ready for him yet.
To me, the play offered realistic insight into what it would be like to experience a bout of mental illness. The tone seemed thoughtful while still being somewhat playful.
Good story, brave to stand up there and tell it. Unfortunately was monotone and I could not hear him when the music was playing. I don't know if it's possible but needs more emotion when speaking. Maybe some comedy relief spots. But overall very brave to tell your story.
I seen what could be a great show, but the portray is an over explanatory version of events. The actor voices every action he is doing and it leads the story to just drag on. However, set that apart, and you get a gritty telling of a young man’s struggling with his own mental health.
Orange You Glad to be in Miami is a surprising and funny autobiographical one-man show recounting Bennet Caffee's time through psych wards as a young adult. Despite the heavy subject, Caffee presents this story comedically, yet deeply authentically, which led to a surprisingly impactful performance. He presents it from the perspective of his younger self, giving us a glimpse into what it's like to live in a mind affected by untreated bipolar disorder. Despite the comedic tone, this show is thought-provoking. Caffee's willingness to be open about all aspects of his experiences and his ability to present them in an entertaining format led to an engaging show that I'll remember.
