Sketchy Broads presents: Resting Bitumen Face

A group of unbelievably funny women giving a masterclass in committing to the bit. Not every single sketch landed for me (although the overwhelming majority did), but nobody could possibly deny that this group aren't committed to their comedy. I really look forward to seeing what they do next!

This show was a tight set of topical sketches. Most landed for me and brought out some deep belly laughs but a few of the repetitive bits or jokes weren’t my cup of tea. Our performance had a special guest cameo from Rachel Notley which had a standing O longer than the show’s.

The sketchy broads were so spot on with their topics, comedic timing, and playfulness! One skit after another was clever or just pure fun. There were short punchlines that were followed by hilarious longer stories, some with a great twist at the end. They sang, they danced, they played well with each other, and the audience ATE IT UP! There was a special treat at the show we went to because Rachel Notley joined for a minute in the "You Had it Coming" song and dance. That was a highlight for sure! Plus, these women can sing! And the other skit that got me going was the Sauna woman, her accent was entertaining and physical comedy hilarious! "Take a deep breath! (sip)" And the uvula appearance was funny! All in all, there was a lot to make note of (I wish I brought a notepad to remember all the funny details to better describe the bits for this review!). I especially liked that the skits were performed with attention to detail by employing sparse but helpful "costume" changes for the audience to catch the joke on the fly. Mind you some skits were less polished (sturdy wood(?) was a bit low-brow), but that's okay. My date said these comedians put on a professional performance, they have the calibur of the talent noted in the Baroness Von Sketch TV shows.

The talent! I was amazed at how easily they slipped between different characters and brought the sketches to life in such a short amount of time. Full commitment to the bit and absolutely hilarious!

Fantastic! It's been awesome to see this group improve and come into their own. The sketches this year were very tight, without a single miss or sketch that felt like it needed to be cut short in the bunch. The political commentary they slid in here was also very on-point.

The best show I have seen at the Fringe Festival so far!

The whole cast was very strong and each skit did an amazing job of showcasing all their strengths. Every bit felt like a genuine collaborative project where every character got to be funny the ways they are funniest. It felt like a real labor of love in that way. The result was an incredible variety of jokes and immediately recognizable cast chemistry.

Everyone will laugh, maybe not all at the same time, but everyone will laugh.

The pace and length of skits kept the segments feeling snappy and the jokes felt much more punchy as a result. The fact that most every skit was a different length, I was always braced for impact and it pretty much always paid off. Its very easy to end up with 30 skits all about the same length with rapid fire skits (pun intended) but that did not happen here.

The mammogram bit, opening and closing skits, and house tour bits were personal highlights but the Chicago number was absolutely BRILLIANT.

I cannot recommend this show more! STOP READING THIS AND GO SEE IT

This was a really great show! The cast is super funny, the skits were very entertaining, my favourite part was the song! definitely recommend the show, you'll have a great time!

I went knowing Nikki was a sure thing, but was very impressed to find a solid cast of funny women providing up to the moment focus on what makes us laugh and/or bang our heads against the wall. This is a solid hour of laughter awaiting you. Run, don’t walk.

This is Sketchy Broads' best show ever, in my opinion! The timing and variety of sketches was absolutely perfect, ranging from one-liners, to raunchy physical comedy, to truly clever political satire. I genuinely enjoyed every minute of this show.

Very funny!!! Great skits

This is hands down the best fringe show i've ever been to. This group is hilarious. The skits are clever, they keep it fresh the entire hour and you never know what turn is coming. We laughed so hard. The acting performances blew us away. The chemistry. A must see. I hope this group gets the success and recognition they deserve!

In a word HILARIOUS!! Right when you think they pushed the limits of comedic sketches they take it up a notch! So talented in the funniest way!

Easily the best work Sketchy Broads has done (that I've seen). It's like they drilled into my skull to find out the exact kind of humour I like and decided to run with it.

All the comedians bring their own strengths to the show and their characters – both the writing and acting is so well done. Nikki Rae Hallow especially is an absolute standout and her role as RFK Jr's uvula will be seared into my memory forever. The final sketch of the show is a perfect cap on this collection, and it will make your jaw drop right to the floor.

A classic sketch comedy show, Resting Bitumen face is packed full of short scenes that cover a wide range of subjects. If you can dream about it, they have a bit about it. The Sketchy Broads are a hilarious group of five comedians, and just from watching them on stage you can tell that they love working with each other. They handle the comedy as if it were a straight play, with not even the slightest acknowledgement of the humour, making it all the funnier. The short form comedy is perfect for anyone with a shorter attention span. You’ll get hit with a punchline every two to three minutes, so try to keep up! If you’re ready for the speed and quickness of the bits, you’ll get whisked along from scene to scene, and even though there’s no overarching story you will still get taken on a journey. The Sketchy Broads create some of the funniest short form comedy at the festival, and Resting Bitumen Face will not disappoint.

5 star acting, and comedy to a level, where my diaphragm hurt for about 6 hours afterwards!!!

In the absence of Marv n Berry this year, which is usually my only sketch comedy show for Fringe, I decided to check out Sketchy Broads for the first time because the poster and title suggested political humor and I’m always down for that.

I’m glad I did! These comedians are a lot of fun and put their full energy into their bits. They are clearly all very talented and very funny. Not every sketch hit for me; there is a a lot of millennial humour in here which isn’t always my preference. However, the jokes that got me really, really got me.

I probably will continue to save most of my sketch comedy show-watching for outside of Fringe time, but this group will certainly be on my roster.

Such a fantastic show! I laughed constantly and enjoyed seeing female comedians killing it on stage...and yes you made us laugh so women can be comedians ;)

I highly recommend seeing this show or checking Sketchy Broads at Neurohilarity or Late Night Cabaret.

It is a wild ride watching this show. You don't know what to expect. Every act and every performer is better than the last. They really committed to the bit. This was my first time seeing them and I will be back for more. I did enjoy the Alberta politics spin they had in the show with some of the acts. It was sad and hilarious at the same time.

They've done it again.

Resting Bitumen Face represents what I think might be Sketchy Broads' best work.

I've seen dozens of fantastic sketches in Sketchy Broads: Choosing the Bear ★★★★★ (2024) and Sketchy Broads: Easy Bake Coven ★★★★☆ (2025).

But this year, they've really nailed the balance of short and long. Punchy and drawn out. There's some magic at work here, occasionally there will be a bit that goes on a bit longer than I thought I want. Internally, I'm thinking that it's overstayed its welcome – but it hasn't. They're about to twist it and go somewhere completely unexpected with it.

They are not afraid to commit, completely, 100% to a bit they know is hilarious. And that commitment pays off in the form of an exceptional show.
