The Adventures of a Valentine

I can relate to several of Tanner’s stories quite a bit and I enjoyed this performance. They present their adventures as a series of diary entries, which keeps things sequential but can feel a little disjointed when stories overlap each other. But hey, real life is messy and disjointed. I felt like Tanner did a good job of putting inflection into their delivery and addressing the audience—they definitely didn’t seem to be merely reading off the pages—but the 100% diary entry format felt a bit stale by the end and I wished they’d sprinkled in something else to break the monotony of that. There were several times throughout where I really wanted to hear more about some aspect of their experiences, but this is theatre and not a two-way conversation, of course. Even so, this was still easily worth my time and I appreciate the openness and vulnerability inherent to these kinds of stories.

Tanner showcases their vulnerability and tells an intriguing story that brings us along their life’s journey. Captivating and thought provoking, and it was wonderful to see a positive and healthy representation of kink and polyamory on stage!

Wonderful seeing vulnerability in such a story. Keep at it! Can't wait to see more from them.

It’s inspiring to see more poly folk take up space and share their stories. I liked the format Tanner told their story on stage and I appreciate the courage it takes to be as vulnerable as they were.

Tanner's lived a hard life, but they made it into something beautiful, both as a life and as a show. They've put a lot of heart and experience into bringing their stories to the stage and turned harrowing events into an uplifting performance. I hope they keep making shows — I think they have a lot to say.

A beautiful person, somewhat vulnerable storytelling… but not ready for fringe. They weren’t off script, which was really unfortunate. There is a responsibility prepare a fringe play to do the work.
