It was a bit difficult to appreciate this for what it is initially because the philosophical element was not as present as I was anticipating from the description and title. I kept waiting for those elements to arrive, but references to Plato functioned more like bookends to start and end a vulnerable, relatable, funny and interesting self-reflection on how we decide what matters when we tell our stories and the impact that has on the people around us.

It's always a treat to see Adam Bailey perform! He is an incredible storyteller, with thoughtful, witty, and beautifully woven stories. I would highly recommend The Truth as a delightful way spend an hour at the Fringe. There is a reason that he is on my Fringe list year after year!

What’s the use of the truth? Being right? Being helpful? Or will it always fall short to a story?

Adam Bailey’s “The Truth (tm)” is an exploration of just that – the truth. Whether it’s reliable or just an excuse to be a know-it-all. The show features anecdotes from Bailey’s own life, with discussions on philosophy, mocktails, and even Snakes on a Plane.

Bailey is an incredibly energetic storyteller, who absolutely knows how to hold an audience’s attention. Jumping in and out of the story to provide context, jokes, and references, He expertly strings together his story of what it means to tell the truth. The show uses tech very sparingly, and it absolutely works, as when a light changes, or a sound plays, it draws you in and immerses you even more in the story.

“The Truth (tm)” is a super entertaining, sincere production, exploring our behaviour as humans when it comes to storytelling, lying, and “Well, actually…”s.

I enjoyed this show, even if I don’t think it quite stuck the landing with the same convincing flow that characterized the rest of Adam’s performance. He’s a wonderful storyteller and an endearing human being, delivering plenty of humour to keep a pretty meaty set of topics—truth-telling, honesty, disclosure, facts, and comforting fictions—feeling light and silly. I’d recommend it despite the ending, which could use a little more work.

Smart, hilarious, engaging, delightful.

I love this kind of storytelling! There are weirder shows but you’d be hard pressed to find one with as strong a voice. He’s funny, informative, and opinionated. He’ll makes you wonder what’s the most important part of telling The Truth.

Another excellent show from Adam Bailey - seemless transitions from philosophy, personal anecdotes, and science all delivered with excellent charisma that keeps you engaged the whole time.
