Generational Welts
What a super creative stand-up routine! Megan artfully combined storytelling, music, dancing and generational trauma, with humor as the glue. Highly recommend!
I thoroughly enjoyed this show! Megan delivered a multigenerational family story, skillfully blending together humor with moments of genuine vulnerability. Her talent for balancing lighthearted comedy with deeper, poignant scenes kept the audience engaged throughout the performance. The day after, I found myself reflecting on both the smoothly delivered jokes, as well as the more serious, thought provoking moments. Mark of a good show when it lingers in your thoughts! Highly recommend!
An insightful session of storytelling that gave us a glimpse into Megan's upbringing and her parents' journey. Combined with the well placed jokes and singing, Megan's story was a reminder on the impacts our parents have on us, and how their parenting styles and mentality are in turn shaped by their own upbringing. Like us, they too are figuring things out for the first time in this game of life. They aren't perfect and at the end of the day, it's up to you to decide how much influence they should hold over you. 10/10! Well done Megan!
Generational Welts was such an amazing one-woman show performed by Megan! She takes you through her family's journey from Vietnam to Edmonton to Vancouver with each step of the way filled with relatable moments, singing, and dancing. Her show was so much fun to watch and I would highly recommend it if you are looking for a good laugh!
MUST SEE Using the power of joking through our trauma, musical numbers, and the subtle parallels between generations, Generational Welts gives as much as you're open to receiving and more.
Huge congrats to Megan for putting such a raw story out there and showing us all that there is a path to a version of healing. Even if it isn't perfect.
Generational Welts is a hilarious and heartfelt one-woman show where Megan takes us on a vivid journey from Vietnam to Edmonton, blending sharp humor with deeply relatable stories of growing up in a Chinese household. Her spot-on Cantonese references, memories of classic Chinese disciplining (yes, the flying slipper makes an appearance), and the clash between generations had the audience roaring with laughter and nodding in recognition. Megan’s storytelling is both personal and universal, turning family trauma into comedy gold while celebrating culture, resilience, and the chaotic love that binds it all together.
Megan effortlessly draws you in to her compelling story through comedy, hilarious remixes, and the oh so relatable struggles many of us have with mental health/family/etc. An amazing one woman performance!!
This is a sixty minute show that spans generations and continents. Megan has crafted a deeply relatable and hilarious retelling of her family’s origin story and life in Canada. The audience will laugh-cry as Megan unpacks Chinese parenting, sociocultural expectations, identity, and the immigrant experience.
If the stories resonated with you, I hope you are in therapy or found healing through other means 😂😂😂 (Or is this just “normal”?!?)
This is a great and well thought out show. Wonderful comedy with heart and pain. I loved it. Good job!
This was my first Fringe Fest show I've seen and I was pleasantly surprised how entertained I was! With this one woman show, I was captivated and along for the ride as Megan hilariously unpacked her Chinese, Vietnamese, and Canadian roots and the complex struggles that come with navigating both personal and family dynamics, with analogies and funny songs that lighten the mood! Well done!
This show kept me giggling the entire time! Megan masterfully blends humour with vulnerable storytelling - taking complicated family baggage and spinning it into comedy gold. A great performance! I would highly recommend people to go check her out if what you're looking for is a good hour of laughter!
Hilarious, witty and genuine. Megan takes us on an emotional journey exploring a plethora of vulnerable topics with poise and ease. A masterfully articulated, multi-generational story of trauma, hardship and complex relationships that has a bit of everything to tickle your quirky - singing, dancing and endless laughter. Loved the multi-media production, lighting symbolism and costumes. So much talent to unpack in one show, especially considering this is Megan's debut performance at the Fringe (a tale written, directed and acted by Megan: a compelling one-woman show!). This is the Fringe show you don't want to miss. Megan is a powerhouse and will take you on a colourful roller coaster ride, so fasten your seat belt!
Faces the reality of growing up having to contend with confusing friction between society and inconsistently-implemented family values. Generational Welts was a really thoughtful, direct and enlightening show, mixed in with real big laughs and huge energy from Meghan. Making it really entertaining. Recommended
This show is a masterpiece! It is brilliantly written and performed, and has so much depth, wit, charm and personal touches. Join Megan on her journey to unpack her family's history as she finds her own understanding, context and identity within their shared and individual stories. Travel with her from Vietnam to Edmonton to Vancouver. She will make you laugh, maybe cry, sing to you and inspire you. Bring your families, chosen families and friends - there is something for everyone to enjoy. Truly spectacular in every sense of the word!
Irreverant and hilarious. I've never laughed quite so hard at multigenerational trauma!
A great performance with great laughs as Megan took us through the story of her family across generations and continents. Hilarious and real! I loved the honesty of the story telling and the singing. More than worth the $20 ticket price!
Megan takes us on a generational journey that’s the perfect combination of hilarious and poignant. Highly recommend!!
Megan is quite the up-and-comer did an amazing job for his first Fringe stand-up routine! There were lots of laughs and cries as she worked her way though the history of her family's life, pre and post immigration. I loved the singing, costume changes, and quirkiness of the show! I'm quite introverted but it was worth leaving the house for this!
Great story and a great performance!! Lots of laughs with some fabulous remixes!
A witty and emotional journey through generational trauma, attempts at cultural assimilation, and complex parent child relationships. Megan makes great use of comedy to unpack the struggles of one family across three generations, three countries, two provinces, and one war.
If you have ever questioned your cultural identity as a child of immigrants, or had a conflict over parental expectations, then this is the show for you.
