Randy & Elizabeth: A Savage Love Story

This storytelling performance is a strong retelling of the history of a key WWF wrestler, with some personal anecdotes mixed in. It's a strong example of a good Fringe storytelling show. It is true that you don't need to "know wrestling" to follow the performance. Though some familiarity with Fandom and the 80s would help one keep engaged. A strong accomplishment from a touring performer.

Extremely entertaining - just like good wrestling should be.

One of the best shows we saw at Fringe this year. Geoff Hughes turns a tribute to Randy “Macho Man” Savage into something much richer, blending hilarious wrestling nostalgia with a surprisingly moving exploration of childhood heroes, love, disappointment and the complicated people behind the legends. I grew up idolizing Savage, so the show hit me especially hard, but my wife, who has no attachment to wrestling at all, enjoyed it just as much. Funny, thoughtful and genuinely heartfelt, you absolutely do not need to be a wrestling fan to love Randy & Elizabeth: A Savage Love Story.

An amazing tribute to the Machoman with great story telling throughout. How he weaves the wrestling history with his own experience is great. A true walk down memory lane.

Even if you have never watched the WWF or look down your nose at professional wrestling, you need to put your doubts aside and see this show. I walked in skeptical and walked out a believer. He captures the essence of "Macho Man" from the 80s and it is a joy to see the character and the man explored by this very talented artist. I'd pay ten times the cost of a ticket to see him explore this character even more in the future.

Can you dig it?! This spectacular one-man show is an incredible tribute to the Macho Man, down to his voice, costume, and mannerisms. Loved by wrestling fans and newcomers alike, this show is extremely well-tailored to suit all audience members. Geoff Hughes took to the stage with magnetic stage presence, excellent comedy, and captivating storytelling. He had the audience hooked from beginning to end, with lots of laughter in between.

Hughes’ ability to embody the larger-than-life personality of the Macho Man while still allowing moments of genuine vulnerability is what makes the performance so engaging. Even if you walked into the theatre knowing nothing about wrestling as I did, his charisma and storytelling make it easy to become invested in the journey.

Join the Macho Manitoban on this emotional rollercoaster for an inspirational tale filled with thrilling anecdotes, heartbreaking romance, and surprisingly heartfelt moments. And remember, it’s ok for even macho men to show every emotion, especially at a show this spectacular.

You don't have to be a wrestling fan to enjoy this show! The whole show is performed in an impeccable impersonation of Monsieur Savage, but the moments when Geoff steps out are beautiful and vulnerable and tie the whole thing together. Go see it!

If you like wrestling, stop reading and buy tickets already. This review is for the rest of us. The performer’s love for this era of entertainment is infectious that you can’t help get into it. All the while he is doing it through an impressive impersonation of Macho Man Randy Savage. Funny, thrilling, and a surprising amount of heart.

I figured out pretty quickly that the Artist and myself are about the same age. The era of professional wrestling that was referenced throughout the peace was the only time in my life that I followed the sport. Such nostalgia for me, but I also was wowed by the performance. I felt like I was watching Randy Savage on stage in both voice and mannerisms. I learned the story behind his tumultuous marriage with Elizabeth who also happened to be his manager. Most of all I loved hearing Macho Manitoban’s personal connection to wrestling and Randy Savage. It brought a surprising level of vulnerability that caught me off guard in the best possible way!

What a blast! A great performance by the Manitoba Macho Man; an entertaining storyteller - totally and convincingly in character! Wrestling fans will ♥️♥️♥️ the show and non-wrestling fans will be equally entertained. OH YAH!!

I was very excited to see Randy and Elizabeth and it actually exceeded my expectations which were already high to begin with. This show will take you on a journey though the best era of wrestling and enlighten the audience with some history of WWF. He is an incredibly entertaining story teller and this one is not to be missed! I give it six out of five stars.
