To put it plainly, this show was a unique and unexpected existential delight. Evelyn portrays a solitary gravedigger during the Black Plague, and the show feels like watching a slow, manic—but still captivating—spiral into madness as they wrestle with the weight of loneliness, lost love, duty, and mortality.
Evelyn’s performance was nothing short of masterful. The audience interaction was earnest and endearing, and she slipped effortlessly between these comedic, lighthearted exchanges and moments of philosophical prose and existential dread. I also loved the prop work with the shovel and sheet and was delighted each time they were utilized in yet another unexpected way.
I would have happily watched this show as a full-length play. I particularly enjoyed the gravedigger as a symbol of the great equalizer—the figure who ultimately meets everyone, regardless of status or circumstance. If the show continues to develop, I wouldn’t mind seeing even more exploration in that direction, as well as a bit more connective tissue (if you will) between the show’s different components.
Megan is a captivating and precise performer and a skilled writer, and the world she weaves through these original stories is mystical, whimsical, and a little haunting. Her take on the maiden, mother, and crone was interesting and personal, but truth be told, I would have been delighted to sit in the story of the library at the center of the universe for the entire show. Witch With Her Skirt on Fire was a great addition to this year's fringe lineup!
Wow wow wow. Dave Morris is a masterful storyteller who weaves a heartfelt piece of theatre about memory and the stories that make us who we are. The memory recall is a delightful element that would make this show easy to see again again (as no two shows will ever be exactly the same), but the real treat is the way Dave can make stories about complete strangers feel so personable, welcoming, engaging, and relatable. If you have a sentimental streak, bring tissues!
A beautiful reminder that life - and living authentically - can start at any age! The performance is sincere, and the poetry is passionate, heartwarming, and at times heart breaking.
A delightfully quick witted and fast paced retelling of a beloved childhood story! Both actors are truly skilled storytellers, and handled the comedic and dramatic elements of the story with equal dexterity. The close quarter combat was particularly impressive and well executed! This show is a treat for the kids and the kids at heart.
This is a magic show that feels like a warm hug! The premise of the show is charming, the performer is endearing and wildly skillful, and the larger themes of friendship, loneliness, and self worth enhance the beauty and effectiveness of the magic itself - which was already impressive. In a world that frequently feels jaded, this magic show was a breath of fresh air.
