If you love physical theatre, mime, one person shows, or anything that has an immense demand on the performer to use their body to shape the world the audience experiences, you will love this.
If you’re newer to theatre and not totally sure what I’m talking about, then imagine someone who is so good at charades you know exactly what they’re doing all the time. But now it’s for an hour and an entire story.
There is such brilliant clarity in each and every gesticulation and facial expression by expert mime Joylyn Secunda that I was fully transfixed the whole show. Equally elevated is the sound and light design that makes the whole world come alive.
This is either going to be right up your alley, a cool new thing you discover, or even if it ends up not being for you, I have no doubt you’ll appreciate the skill and specificity involved.
I will likely see it again before the festival ends!
Wit and Whimsy by Regency Improv is an absolute delight! Fans of Jane Austen, regency era lit, rom-coms, long-form improv, and honestly, anyone looking for skilled storytelling with humour and heart ,will be pleased. The cast of Vancouver improvisers weave a multifaceted story about friendship, heartbreak, and of course, love, all while nailing the most beloved tropes and dramatic structural elements of the regency era romance genre. I heartily laughed, swooned, and paused in admiration for this wonderful show. It’s improvised, so multiple viewings are highly feasible. Only a handful of shows left so don’t miss out!!
