I’ve been reading Ram’s reviews for a minute now, and genuinely look forward to his new posts. We come from the same cloth, raised on the same culture, laughing at the exact same childhood moments. So when I missed his initial run because I was out of town, I was really disappointed. But then the man gets a holdover show. I looked at my wife and said we’re going. We gotta support. My wife and I were born and raised right here in Edmonton, but somehow we’d never actually been to the Fringe. Don’t ask me how, but we just never made it. So we walked in completely blind, zero expectations, just a decent night out. Ram had the entire room in the palm of its hand. Real, raw, knee slapping storytelling. I was laughing my ass off, relating to every single beat, every clever reference (shout out to Sopranos fans), every hit on that soundtrack, it was like someone unlocked a vault of our collective upbringing in Millwoods. Then I look across the aisle, and I see grown ass men literally sobbing. Tears rolling down their faces into their beards. That’s when you know a story is hitting a real nerve.
Ram was up there holding the room hostage with zero prior stage experience. You couldn't tell for a single second. The man was born for this. He didn't just perform, he owned the room, keeping everybody enthralled from the moment he stepped out until the lights went down. What an incredible show and a phenomenal performance! If this is what he does on his first run, I can't wait for what comes next. Now we’re just sitting here waiting on the sequel, because Edmonton needs the Donair Odyssey, and we need it immediately. Ram, you killed it, brother. Respect.
