Owen Andrews
I was given a free ticket and an invitation from my friends to come from Calgary to Fringe for the first time. I love movies, but I had never seen a play before, so I sat down in this little quaint room with absolutely no idea what to expect.
Barely a few minutes in, and with no exaggeration,I couldn't recognize them; I forgot who they were.
I was hit with a wave of nostalgia, almost like opening a book I had read a hundred times before. Everything flowed so naturally that I stopped thinking about the fact that I was watching a performance. I was simply watching the story unfold.
I was genuinely taken aback by how quickly the actors and the technical team behind the production were able to envelop the audience and make that little room feel like somewhere else entirely. I stopped feeling like I was sitting in a room watching a play and started feeling connected to the beautiful world they had created.
And perhaps the most remarkable part was watching people I knew become people I didn’t recognize.
For my first play, Good Old Days is going to be a very difficult one to beat.
It was remarkable. It was heartfelt, immersive, and absolutely brilliant. I know I’ll remember this performance for years to come.
I came to watch my friends put on a play, and instead, for a little while, I got to watch them become something entirely their own.
I encourage anyone and everyone to watch, not only for brilliant acting and technical direction, but for the beautiful story they share that I promise you will resonate.
And to the playwrights and everyone involved.
Thank you for giving me something I didn’t know I was going to love.
