Art that relies on being inherently sexual is often very underappreciated. This is something true of burlesque, and often of romance novels as well, so it should come as no surprise that those romantic novel cliches served as a source of inspiration for the people at House of Hush. In Between the Covers, the audience is led through the evening by Belinda Cornish as our lavish hostess whose unique manner of speech is evocative of Schitt’s Creek’s Moira Rose, and whose fantastical life stories may not all be quite as true as she claims… But regardless of their truth, the spectacles of the hostess’s life are the foundation for the highlight of the show - the dancing. Featuring a cast of six burlesque performers, the show includes a variety of group numbers, solos, and duets, and all six performers get a chance to bear themselves on stage, metaphorically and literally. Of course burlesque is not up everyone’s alley, but if you are a burlesque enjoyer, you will certainly love Between the Covers. The story of the show is not the most interesting thing you’ll see, but it’s also not what you’re there to see - you’re there for the dancing. And by that you most certainly will not be disappointed.
