House of Hush is back again this year- and after seeing their amazing horror-themed show last year, I had high expectations.

Unfortunately, I prefered last year's show. Now, is part of that because I'm a campy horror enby? Yes.

But I think the larger reason is that I felt this year there was less plot than I would have expected, based on last year.

While the emcee did have a compelling storyline, I found that most of the pieces through the show felt like there wasn't much story at all. And they felt rather disconnected from the overarching story that was being told. Unfortunately, without an internal story to each piece, I found them feeling a little predictable.

I think with the theming of the show and the initial introductions I expected each piece to reference romantic literature, or actually portray a moment in the emcees 'real life'. But in the end, most pieces felt very similar to each other, without the individual characters/avatars evolving, growing or discovering.

The stand-outs for me were the duet (iykyk), and the portrait. I found the portrait piece to be genuinely moving, and more vulnerable than the rest of the show. The duet piece felt like something Chappelle Roan might sing about- which is always a win.

Now, while I've expressed some disappointment with this show, it is extremely important to clarify that these are all incredibly high caliber performers. The performers were absolutely stunning, the costumes were gorgeous. The pieces were well-rehearsed, the group numbers were in sync, the emcee and Fabio's interactions were funny. With House of Hush it's hard not to have a good time. I just wish there had been a bit more internal plot.

I would certianly still see what they do next year, and I do recommend this show if you're looking for a fun, sexy time!
