I completely agree with the message of this play: we need to defend public health care against all cuts.

But the show just wasn’t good. I know they were attempting at a full on send up of the system with ridiculous characters and over-the-top situations. But that joke got old rather quickly.

I found myself looking at my watch waiting for it to be over or checking out the stained glass of the church windows.

When they had something important to say about health care, they would walk downstage and deliver what felt like a lecture.

Saving public health care is one of the most important things we must do and calling out lack of funding is a worthy task.

But, I wish the playwright had checked their facts a little more closely. And I don’t feel it’s helpful to undermine doctors. They aren’t the problem and most of them are committed to their patients. Focus your criticisms on the politicians who underfund the system and who ideologically would like to see it privatized.

So kudos for taking on the subject matter. But if you’re going to use theatre as a platform, you need to commit to producing a high quality show.
