I don’t go to Fringe plays, but I heard about this play about Mill Woods from a Punjabi guy, and because I grew up in Mill Woods, I was curious. I honestly wasn’t expecting much, but Ram absolutely floored me. He captured my life and the lives of so many Punjabi kids who grew up in the 80s and 90s in a way that was so real and so beautiful. After his performance, I wanted to go up to him and talk to him, but the only thing I could manage to say was, “That was so real.” My friend who came with me couldn’t even say anything. He started crying in the car afterward. It was amazing. And what made it even more special was how Punjabi and desi the play was. There were these little nuggets sprinkled throughout that might be completely lost on a non-brown audience. Like the restaurant where he got diarrhea being named after an old Hindi scary movie. Those little details made it feel even more authentic. This is a masterpiece. An instant classic. Thank you, Ram. You did Mill Woods proud, bro. We love you.
