The Fabulist is a good tribute to Helen Creighton, with certain educational value. As someone who went in not knowing who Helen Creighton was, I definetly left with a better understanding of who she was and her impact.

There are a few aspects of the show that did not land for me. The writing often relied on exposition. While I understand it situates the audiences in the timeline of her career, there are other, more creative opportunities that have potential to carry the story through.

The video/projection aspect within the show took away from the actor's performance. This monologue and delivery were my highlight and was by far the most captivating performance in the show. The video pulled my attention away. The writing in this moment spoke for itself. It really felt like we were Helen Crieghton in this moment, witnessing this story spoken for the first time.

I think the use of the classic "Farewell to Nova Scotia" as a connective tissue was a very clever concept, however, I feel the execution is not quite at its full potential. I think using an instrumental track of the song could help fill the gaps and provide consistency throughout the story. A soundtrack or score of sorts. I felt disconnected with Helen Creighton's character at times (probably due to her very composed demeanour), and having music could help us see into her psyche as she uncovers the haunted folklore of the province.

Overall, I can see a lot of potential with this production. With further developement I could see this show becoming a staple in educating the public on this local legend.
