Banished

Banished examines the fall of woman, why she left, where she went and how she returned. This story looks at what she brought back with her, what both women and men learned, and what we need to do now. Storytelling, music and dance weave together in a synergistic braid that reflects the braiding together of the male and the female that allows us to become fully human.

Ten-tickles My Fancy

Mauretia's delivery as narrator is so precise and riveting, every phrase carries such meaning and imagery, with every carefully weighted and deliciously ennunciated word for the full 50 minutes of the performance. And what a compelling script, mythological in symbolism and scope, speaking to tensions realities, relationships past present and future. And the performances and production work enveloped me as the story unfolded, simple, subtle and strong, bringing me into the mythological realm. Bravo

A Never-Ending Story

This is a powerful journey through mythology. I thought the effects were very moving and mesmerizing. The story and movement captivated me from the first moment to the final shot. This play is a true journey into the depths and back again. The use of props to create the effect was very well done. The story touched me and the performers embodied it so well.

Mauretia has such an incredibly creative mind and this performance really brings that to light. The story was captivating and the music, dancing, and acting brought the story to life! The performance kept me intrigued the whole time. Simply beautiful.

Huge congratulations to Mauritia Holloway for creating her immersive, lyrical show, Banished. A contemplative confluence of language, light, music and movement, creating a calming space for us to step off the street and reflect deeply on gender relations and the water-air fluidity of our existence.

Poignant storytelling delivered over a spectacular musical score supported by dance, movement, and lighting. The story is timeless, dreamlike, and suspenseful. Like all great stories, it has a satisfying ending. I noticed audience members smiling and pausing to discuss the experience as we left the venue.
