Craig in Conversation with God
A lot of us can be more like Craig - giving their all, lip syncing with a feather boa and sunglasses, and sassily saying “…Tequila”. WOW!
I am in absolute awe at the physical comedy within this show. I love that someone different plays God every performance, and it would be interesting to see how each person interprets the character and the differences they bring to the performance. I definitely left the theatre smiling.
I started the second day of the Halifax Fringe Festival at The Bus Stop Theatre seeing Jessie Walker’s new play Craig in Conversation With God starring Leah Pritchard as Craig and Jeremy Webb as God. Leah Pritchard will be playing Craig in all subsequent performances of the play, but the role of God is being played by a different Halifamous person (and one Emerging Halifamous person) for each performance, so they are all different- collect all six!
Craig is a green dinosaur who loves to eat flowers. One day God takes great pains to get his attention because he has been thinking of destroying the Earth via a meteor and he’d like to put Craig through a few paces to see if he can make a case for why the Earth should be spared. What is immediately interesting about this, really one way conversation, as Craig doesn’t really speak, is that God knows everything that is going to happen in the entire history of Earth, and poor Craig only knows his own little reality, living in a beautiful, natural, bountiful place, where he mostly just eats, does his business, plays a little music, does a little play-doh art, and finds someone to mate with. We learn that there is nothing inherently wrong with Craig or with the Earth that Craig knows, but God is hoping to prevent great tragedies that are to come by washing his hands of the Earth now. Fantastic bit of physicality from Leah Pritchard, one of our funniest, and sharp, insightful writing from Jessie Walker as always. I feel bad for anyone whose god is not Kat McCormack (in life or during the rest of this run).
Witty, unique, and weird. Loved
I predict another Fringe favorite from Around + Out Theatre! Craig the dinosaur is trying so hard to please a God we (the audience) love to hate. I wish I could see it with EACH of the guest artists voicing God! This show is funny with super physical comedy, a splash of darkness and a twist ending.
A show that successfully packs an incredible amount of witty comedy, great music, physical performance, and real worldly analysis into ~30 minutes. The choice to have a different guest play God every performance is very creative and means you never know exactly what to expect.
A goofy, almost-family-friendly almost-mime show with physical comedy and god's commentary of the value of planet Earth. It's fun! Made us laugh.
Brilliant, quirky and cute. The show with many surprises including God played by specials guests (tonight was Jeremy Webb). Definitely add this to your list. Well-done everyone!!
