Polesque: the Grunge Era (post-grunge)

From the creators of The Grunge Era comes the next chapter: The Grunge Era – Post-Grunge. Through music, video, and performance art, we explore the aftermath of the grunge movement and the bands shaped by the raw, iconic sound of early '90s Seattle.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Polesque has done it again! From the creators of The Grunge Era comes The Grunge Era – Post-Grunge, a thrilling fusion of music, video, and performance art that dives into the raw energy and aftermath of the Seattle sound.

The cast—Onyx, Ruby Talons, Holly Graphic, Sarilla Fox, and Wripple Rouge—each brought their own style and flair, enhanced by distinctive costumes that gave every number a unique feel. The way they combined burlesque with pole dancing was seamless, powerful, and a true testament to the artistry of the form.

The music was rocking and intense, perfectly capturing the post-grunge era, and the dancers matched that energy at every turn. The highlight for me was the sheer athleticism on display—strength, precision, and creativity all rolled into one. The performers also kept the audience engaged from start to finish, creating a dynamic, electric atmosphere.

A must-see at this year’s Fringe—this show is proof that Polesque continues to raise the bar for performance art in Edmonton.

Great music and a great show. I've never quite seen anything like it. I was able to get on the stage with the performers after the show and get a memory to last a lifetime!! An amazing experience I won't soon forget! It leaves me wanting more!!! I'm so glad I was able to get a ticket to the final show which was sold out. It was so fun!!

As someone who loves music of this era and gorgeous beings, this show was a hit. The dancers were incredibly talented, beautiful, strong and engaging. I found the VH1 style Behind the Music vignettes a little unexpected. It kind of takes away from the sultry vibe but it was informative. Not to knock Spotlight as a venue but the layout, plus the uncomfortable seats, packed so tightly together make it really awkward to turn about in your chair whilst the performers tour through the audience. Apart from these minor issues, the dances were memorable and the ladies had the audience hollering with lots of smiles on faces!

These performers are extremely skilled and clearly put a lot of work into their craft. They are stunning and the performances were varied. One thing that very much threw me was the lack of guidelines for the audience. Every Burlesque type show I've been to lays out expectations, usually verbally, occasionally on a written card. Should we cheer? Engage the performers? Do they appreciate pictures shared on social media? This isn't a typical show, so I wasn't sure. And given the placement as part of Fringe, there maybe newbies there, so explaining roll of the kitten and basic etiquette might be important.
