Mind Blown

I was so impressed by this performer. I never would have expected to be so captivated by a mime. The story was incredibly told through the movement and expressions. Loved it and it's in my top 3 for this year. Get to the last show if you can.

Martin Dockery really knows how to enthrall an audience. I've seen a few of his shows now and this one was probably the favorite so far. I really enjoyed his journey through this story that almost could be plausible. How 1 small lie can grow into a series of even more inescapable falsities. I found myself trying to figure out what loose ends he needed to tie up to get away with it all! A very fun and engaging story that I would recommend!

Sexy Fringe Show

As someone who loves music of this era and gorgeous beings, this show was a hit. The dancers were incredibly talented, beautiful, strong and engaging. I found the VH1 style Behind the Music vignettes a little unexpected. It kind of takes away from the sultry vibe but it was informative. Not to knock Spotlight as a venue but the layout, plus the uncomfortable seats, packed so tightly together make it really awkward to turn about in your chair whilst the performers tour through the audience. Apart from these minor issues, the dances were memorable and the ladies had the audience hollering with lots of smiles on faces!

This theatre troupe has greatly impressed me two Fringes in a row now. I may not be super familiar with the source material of The Ice Man Cometh, but that did not stop me from getting the jist of this darkly, twisted mash up with Peter Pan. I truly loved it but I love the absurd and unexpected! The cast are superb and really know how to command attention. Minimalist set design keeps you focused on the characters. This is as Fringy as it gets. I couldn't have been happier!

Laughed So Hard I Cried

I've seen every Shirley Gnome show she's done at Edmonton Fringe going back several years. This show has a great premise as a viral tik tokker come accidental childrens performer creating memorable songs, most definitely not appropriate for children but teaching valuable lessons all the same. From zipper merging to remembering to always drink water with every boozy beverage whilst day drinking. I laughed hard and will now have these songs stuck in my head all week.

If only ever improv show could be this good. These two are masters of their craft and somehow always manage to make something extremely special from such a small blurb in the program. It's not only a wonderful way to spend an hour, it often ends up getting me to go see the show they "playgiarize" not necessarily to compare but just to see what a difference it is from what the original play is about. Great fun and an interesting way to support fellow Fringe artists.

Belinda and Jana are talented improvisors but I think as with many improv shows, the success of the performance is really dependent on what the audience prompts are. This format likely has great potential when the guest "third lady" is someone who can jump on into an improv troupe. Alas, the guest on the day I attended was really not a performer of this kind and it showed. Having an amber alert go off mid show also seemed to throw the vibe off further. A bit of bad luck but I'd give it another chance if I knew who the guest was before hand.

Really enjoyable allegorical interpretation of this man's psyche using new wave music. I laughed and wanted to get up and dance on several occasions.

Felt a real connection to this performance. While I never have endured the trauma of this character, I ached for her. It was a really well written and acted show. Also great music throughout!

House of Hush Burlesque always put a lot of time and effort into crafting a well thought out and rehearsed show. The costuming in Bump and Grindhouse was really beautiful and the dancers were sultry and spooky! Violette is always a stand out and she had a fun number for this show. As excellent as the MC of the show is, my only complaint is that the dialogue runs on a bit. I know costume changes take time and it has to be filled somehow but I think the audience all appreciates getting to see the dancers over the MC. I would love to see another creative time filler that's less dialogue heavy for this type of show. An hour really isn't long enough!
