SHIRLEY GNOME: Children, You Can't Beat 'Em! (this is not a kid's show)

Last year’s holdover returns with a new show and a new direction. After accidentally creating a viral kids’ song on TikTok, R-rated singer Shirley Gnome attempts to cash in with an all-ages music hour. Spoiler: it doesn’t go well. Juno Award nominee 2021, Fringe Encore nominee 2024 (Soho Playhouse NYC).

Ten-tickles My Fancy

This was my first Shirley Gnome show & will definitely not be my last. This may not be a show for children, but everyone else can learn 'life lessons'. Completely professional & completely funny. A truly gifted performer & creator.

Mind Blown

Full-disclosure, I love this woman and think she's a genius so I AM BIASED but my future husband and I both feel this is her best work to date. Her previous Fringe show "Titular Character" made me laugh to the point of tears but this time she also caused me to cry tears of frustration (at the state of the world) and hope for our future generations as well. The show is so well-thought out and the writing is superb. The songs are funny as hell and you will leave with a little ball of warm light glowing in your chest. Long Live Fringe! Long Live Shirley Gnome! I hope this show goes far and many other people get to witness this excellent work <3

Shirley Gnome is a brilliant performer. She is fully committed to her concept & performance. As an unexpected children’s performer she tries to leave her true self at the door but she just can’t do it. Hilarity ensues but the kids come to love her uniquely honest take on life. The content is amazingly detailed especially all the different scenarios she comes up with for how the kids came into this world. And the kid’s names with all their unusual spellings were bang on. Laughed all the way through.

Shirley Gnome is a jewel of the Fringe. It’s stiff competition, but this might be my favourite show of hers yet – absurd, hilarious, and a perfect use of her as a character and performer. A true artist at work. She’s selling out and she deserves it. Book fast.

Laughed So Hard I Cried

This Viral TikTok turned infamous kids show (not for kids) deserves all the praise it gets. Sending you on a journey to a school concert turned knockoff Ms. Frizzle field trip to dark realm while “high” on something other then excitement; this show is is filled with satirical jokes about kids and the horrors of life that keep the audience dying of laughter.

From teaching you safety while drinking, to zipper merges and the reasons why our parents brought us here, the topics told through songs and cognitive disco dance teach the audience about life.

There is no doubt that this show is a comedic masterpiece, but a key component of this showstopper is the sheer vocal and musical talent. She might only have one famous song Scronkel Donkle but with talent like hers she could have many more.

If you are someone who loves laughing your Butt off and immersing yourself into the world of a show this is exactly what you are looking for. The songs are still stuck in my head and I could definitely go again.

Laughed So Hard I Cried

I've seen every Shirley Gnome show she's done at Edmonton Fringe going back several years. This show has a great premise as a viral tik tokker come accidental childrens performer creating memorable songs, most definitely not appropriate for children but teaching valuable lessons all the same. From zipper merging to remembering to always drink water with every boozy beverage whilst day drinking. I laughed hard and will now have these songs stuck in my head all week.
