Quiz Icarus
In 2024, Nam & Aaron both competed on Jeopardy! and returned with prize money & a permanent monkey on their backs. Now they're here to tell you their stories of growing up nerdy & striving for trivia glory. If you feel brave, step on stage - they'll put their pride (and $$$) on the line to prove they're still smarter than you.
Nam and Aaron are Jeopardy contestants.
This show is pretty uncomplicated. The two of them told the story of how they get on Jeopardy, their experience on the show, and then Nam competes in a Jeopardy game against two audience contestants (who have been earning headstarts the whole show) for $100.
If you want to be one of the people participating in the game, show up early and get in the front row.
For a superfan of Jeopardy like me, this was a fun show.
It was also fun to put a face to the name of Aaron, who I remember seeing on Jeopardy (and yelling at him through my screen).
Classic Fringe fare.
Tickets in hand as I entered the venue for Quiz Icarus, I'll be honest - I wasn't expecting to feel emotional as I watched the story. Learn more trivia? Definitely. Find out more about the process to join Jeopardy? Absolutely. Connect with two people who are finding their way through the world, chasing their passions, and not letting set backs get in their way or get them down? Definitely not.
Quiz Icarus is a heart-felt, moving, journey through life, told by two incredible story-tellers. We laughed with them, got a little teary eyed for them, cheered for them, and learned from them.
If you're a trivia nerd, or just have a passion for something a little "nerdy"... Go see this show.
Comedy for $1000, Please!
United by their mutual dream of being on Jeopardy!, Nam Nguyen and Aaron Brown tell their stories about how the famous quiz game show has shaped their lives. Just like Icarus, their dream came so close, only for it to escape from their grasp. Nam and Aaron’s storytelling was very enthralling. Nam’s striking dramatization of events, dancing the Macarena, and pop culture jokes were engaging and amusing. His personality shone brightly, and he was tremendously appreciative when a few audience members and I understood his reference to Bill Wurtz’s “History of Japan.” “Trivia Daddy” Aaron Brown’s engrossing account of his experience had you rooting for him to win despite the ending being long behind him. He was good at building up anticipation and spoke articulately. Though they may not have become masters at Jeopardy!, they are masters of storytelling. Nam and Aaron’s love for Jeopardy! is loud and clear, and it is only fair that the Fringe shows their love, too. Catch Quiz Icarus until August 23.
