The Garden Variety Show
Drag story hour but with puppets! For gardeners, kids, and grownup campy kids, it’s a puppet cabaret! Starring Sorrel and Arugula (the Bitter Sisters), Buddy May Bloom (that's his name!) Invasion of the Lilies of the Valley, Todd the Lady Bug, La Composta, and the dancing Carrettes! #thegardenvarietyshow
this is fun for kids and adults and teen (to some extend)... love the puppets design work
So charming and whimsical!!! Plenty of jokes that land with adults and kids alike. The production value in this is insane. The puppets, the costumes, the set. SUMPTUOUS!! It's all the kind of thing I’d expect to see in a kids tv show that actually has MONEY. Songs are adorable and clever and I could've watched this for hours. Still have so many shows left, but this one ranks very very highly so far.
The Garden Variety Show is a whimsical, heartwarming reminder of the magic of childhood television. If you grew up with Mr. Dressup, Polka Dot Door, or Pee-wee’s Playhouse, this show will instantly transport you back to that nostalgic, joy-filled space. It’s a 60-minute escape for both adults and children — an invitation to let go and simply be a kid again.
Visually, this might be one of the best-looking sets at the festival, complete with vibrant, imaginative costumes that truly need to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. The attention to detail is outstanding and plays a huge part in the show's immersive charm.
One note: I would love to see the show enhanced with a backing track. It could really elevate the performer’s vocal abilities and highlight the natural beauty of their voice even more.
In all, The Garden Variety Show is a delightful experience — joyful, nostalgic, and beautifully crafted. A must-see for anyone looking to rediscover a sense of wonder.
This show was super cute!! The performer is from Vermont and I loved all of his puppets! The songs were great and I liked the covers (changed to a gardening theme). The Broadway medley was awesome! My husband got to go up on stage to be Buddy the flower in full bloom - he even got a blue ribbon to keep! Loved it!
Growing; Inside and Out
A hilarious time for parents and kids alike; Gabriel Quirk truly shows off his craftsmanship and talent in all things art through The Garden Variety Show. The audience is instantly included into the show as a sound effect orchestra, buzzing like bees or forming the chorus of the sun. Even as a teen I had an absolute blast with all the family-friendly jokes and pop culture references. Despite its generally light hearted attitude, The Garden Variety Show found ways to be extremely relevant in modern politics, especially regarding trans rights and identity. I absolutely loved the overall message of love, acceptance, and growth ever present in the show, and would be suspicious of any critical receptions regarding this message. Another standout was the absolutely masterful craftsmanship of the puppets and set, both of whom added tons to the immersion and atmosphere of the show-- Quirk is an incredibly talented puppeteer and artist. Overall, if you are looking for a children’s show style show with lots of laughs for the whole family, you will love The Garden Variety Show.
