This show didn’t jive with my sense of humor. I felt that a lot of the jokes were low-hanging fruit despite the unique premise. As someone with experience in non-profits, there were some situations and jokes in here that were pretty relatable, but relatability wasn’t really enough to make this a must-watch for me.

I was shocked to see generative AI images used in the slideshow during the show. It is always disappointing to see artists using tools that exploit other artists. Generative AI use is the fastest way to guarantee that I, personally, will not attend another play by the theatre company that uses it. Not only is it morally indefensible, but it’s also just boring. It’s funnier to have bad photoshop, childish drawings, or frankensteined clip art than ugly and uncanny genAI. Seeing these images soured my experience of the show.

Masters at work. A delightfully goofy, fun concept turned into a joyful journey with the kind of audience care you’d expect from these local heroes.

Hilarious! The ladies are committed to their roles and put on a great show. It honestly made me want to adopt a sock. Audience participation is part of the show, but interaction is not forced upon the crowd and instead is in the spirit of volunteering.

A safe show for the older crowd who remember REO Speedwagon. Mild humour but well staged.

A Never-Ending Story

The actors were entirely committed to their roles but the show could've been 45 minutes. It got a bit stale and repetitive towards the end.

The premise of this play is wonderful: a society dedicated to finding forever feet for socks who have lost their twins! The play is witty, whimsical and wonderful. The actors delivered great performances. A heart warming and hilarious tale, darn it!

This show was absolutely delightful! Funny, heartfelt, and great music. The Lost Sock Rescue Society is about holding dear and seeing value beyond the superficial, and equally being able to let go. The performers are all fantastic, and the audience participation is fun and not forced; it feels very respectful. This is one not to miss. Do it for Gertrude.. 10/10

Laughed So Hard I Cried

The Lost Sock Rescue Society is exactly what I need from a Fringe show. From the moment you step into the perfectly, appropriate venue, Edmonton theatre all-stars Christine Lesiak and Louise Casemore welcome you. Christine, as Sandra, radiates a joyful bounce that lights up the space, while Louise, as Sabryna, offers the perfect contrast, grounding the energy and adding a surly undertone. Together, they lead you on a wonderfully playful, heartfelt journey through their volunteer recruitment seminar. The show is peppered with inventive surprises, including a delightful side character, who adds another layer of charm and comedy. Every detail is thoughtfully crafted, right down to how the socks have characters themselves. One scene involving a sock in need had me laughing so hard I cried. It’s lighthearted yet touching, accessible and imaginative. I walked out of venue #28 on a buzzing high, skipping off to my next show. If you’re wondering what to see at the Fringe, make sure The Lost Sock Rescue Society is on your list—because it is “darn” good.

True to description Lost Sock Rescue Society is a wholesomely sock-tastic show about socks that need homes and the women who find those homes (or don’t).

A note about the venue: the elevator does work, it just takes so long you’ll think it doesn't, and the hallway where you line up is quite narrow for two lanes of traffic (one person bumped his shoulder against a painting, and it almost went down) and with that many people the hallway really echoes. Once you are in the theatre it is a really nice space, not too echoey and the lighting design is really calm. One downside to the space is that it can sometimes be hard to see the stage, so I found myself craning my neck to get a better view at times. I normally use all the sensory supports to see live theatre, but all I used for this show was my loop engage earplugs.

When you enter there are all these socks with tags you can go up and meet, I saw a really sweet exchange between a girl who took photos of some of the socks and a woman who wasn't able to go up to meet them and it made me wonder if there's a way for more people to meet the socks. There is in a sense, they have an instagram: lost.sockrescue, with some sock bios, not the ones I saw at the show but it definitely gives you a taste.

There is audience participation which can seem scary, but they were so respectful of the audience and it never felt like anyone had to interact with them (I did not). From the moment you walk in you get a sense of Sandra (the older one) and Sabrina’s (the younger) relationship as they constantly change the music on one another while welcoming you to the ‘meeting’ of the lost sock rescue society. At first they may seem like an odd pairing (and they are) but through the absolutely hilarious trials of teaching you all the rules that go into taking care of socks they learn to understand each other, and you get a sense of how it feels not only for the people that care about the things most of us cast aside but also for all the things we toss to the back of the drawer without a second thought.

A beautiful story about toeing the line between not caring and caring too much, fit for anyone who wants to learn more about socks, who holds on too tightly to the things they love, or just wants to laugh till they cry.
