I got singled out as Hamlet and had a great time. Patrick is a lot of fun and has amazing energy and ability to hold an audience. I definitely get the sense of his background as a street and renaissance fair performer, and I'm not sure it translates 100% perfectly to the Fringe stage format. If you've read a lot of Shakespeare and are familiar with some of the classic digs of Shakespearean work (everyone dies, nobody is happy, "unconventional" relationships) then you're going to be on the same page as me, but if you hated Shakespeare in English class you will enjoy this more.
Hilarious and absurd beyond belief and potentially the most chaotic and rancid vibes ever brought to Saskatoon's Cosmopolitan Seniors Centre. The feeling of absolute horror and dread while simultaneously laughing until out of breath is an experience unique to Martin Dockery. His stage persona immediately reads as "himself at 500%" from his endless reserve of intensity that sucks you into this manic nightmare. Recommending to friends and enemies alike.
A wonderful and hilarious trip through the years of a long relationship. The writing and pacing are both impeccably done in the style of many British sitcoms, giving this a very professional feeling. The actors have boiled down the ingredients used to make stock old-husband–wife duos and extracted only what's necessary; the intentional embodiment of what may otherwise be tired trope characters allows them to transform instantly and lets them both play into and subvert stereotypes for comedic effect. An absolute classic
A good magic show that is heightened greatly by Keith's amazing storytelling and effortless humour. He has a fantastic way of speaking that could completely captivate an audience talking about literally anything he wants. Magic-wise, there was only one moment that stood out for me, so in the end I wanted more in that department. The tricks use classic magician tools and follow the regular contours of standard magic tricks (with great execution, I'll add). However his charisma means that if you had to pick anyone in the world to show you a standard magic trick, you'll want to pick Keith Brown.
I can't finish without mentioning how well he treats the audience in a show that has a great deal of participation; 10/10 on that. This would be a very welcoming show for someone to attend if they were afraid of being on stage or participation.
John Sobol takes the audience on an exploration of mostly fringe (haha) alien conspiracy through the artistic mediums of jazz saxophone and theatre. Of the two forms, I found the saxophone much stronger; Sobol plays at a high level with both great passion and control. His enthusiasm for his work and content really bursts through naturally out of his playing. As an avid listener to some of the more "out there" avant garde jazz, I definitely wanted more sax!
When it came to the theatre, information is presented without any spectacle and very matter-of-factly such that it leaves no room for critical opinion when a lot of his beliefs are as far "out there" as the music he is inspired by. Juicy Woo-Woo has moments not unlike a podcast or video essay, but you're not going to find another show where one could create a debunking video in response! This show will really resonate with people who already believe in aliens on Earth but is unlikely to win over many skeptics.
Four plays for the price of one? Definitely check this one out. Even if somehow you're not vibing with one of the plays, there's three more! The short-play format leaves no room for dull moments; as such they are all hilarious shows with memorable characters like the legendary Swearin' Darren. The cast and production come together to create these short works that feel special on their own; even so, the theatre-going experience is made better than the sum of its parts like a great concept album.
