“I Am A Boat” is my recommended alternate title. There are references throughout to imagery/metaphors/etc about her being a boat and a tree, and having grown up with Cane and Abel. This is mixed in with storytelling about random events in her life (big, small, traumatic, drunkenness, health scares). It seemed random and somewhat disconnected; and went on for much too long. I think the process of creating this production would have been very therapeutic for her, however as an audience member I felt very disconnected and confused about the inner processing and thoughts behind it. In between songs and sometimes during the songs she made attempts at standup jokes about her life. She was accompanied by bass and keyboard throughout playing jazz and improvising to a drum backup track. The bass player had some solid grooving lines at some points in the performance. There were some moments of good vocals. The rap added some variance to the repetitive sounds of the music.
