A Sexy Pigeon Show

I really enjoyed this. It was the right amount of clown and facts. She is full of energy, and a lot of fun to watch.

Watching Colum the alley pigeon try its hardest to win back humanities love all by themselves could be a bit sad at times but mostly it was funny. A couple times I did find myself looking around at the other attendees but overall I had a great time.

The one show to bridge the gap between humans and pigeons.

I haven't seen a lot of clowning this Fringe, and I think I'd qualify this as clowning.

It's a show about a pigeon struggling with loneliness trying to be loved by humankind, and themselves.

Talented physical performance, and very quick on-their-feet (talons?) thinking and improv. Tonnes of work go into bits, like a board of posters, that are only used very briefly before moving on. Nothing overstays its welcome.

It is not, however, very sexy. The show opens with a bit of a burlesque number, but beyond that, the "sexy" part of the show. Pigeons are liars, and this only deepens the human/pigeon divide.

One thing I'll call out that I appreciated a lot. Before the show began, the director stepped up and explained in what ways the show would have audience participation, and clearly outlined how any member could signal they're not interested, and the performer would move on. Very simple, quick thing to do that put the audience at ease. Love it.

The burlesque portion is quite funny and is over within the first 10 minutes of the show. There were some funny moments in this show like movement imitations and pigeon-izing many of the other fringe posters, however was lacking momentum. At one point she says “what else can I do to entertain you humans?” Which summed up the feeling through most of the show like she was grasping for ideas of what to do next to fill 60 minutes. Throughout there were various short moments of audience participation.

I agree with the other reviewers that the script could have used some tightening/more of a plot arc, but I could have watched Colum be Colum without any script! Sarah is a talented actor/clown, and her physicality and movement was spot-on and so fun to watch.

I enjoyed the show and found the performer very charming and captivating. I think it's hard to walk the line between sincerity and absurdity in a show like this, and especially difficult to do as a one-person performance. Some jokes didn't quite land, and there were a few slow moments, but in general it was a great concept with a lot of talent and heart.

Fringe has always hosted a variety of comedic plays about humans playing animals. There have even been many plays in the more specific genre of humans playing pest animals. We’ve had rats, raccoons, and now pigeons. The recent prevalence of this type of show naturally demands that new entries must be particularly original and creative, or else risk disappointment by comparison.

In this case, I was sadly disappointed. Like many plays of this type, there were plenty of puns, explorations of what it means to be human or animal, and copious amounts of audience participation. The show didn’t seem interested in mining anything deeper than that, which can be fine if it’s clever and funny regardless, but it didn’t quite achieve that either. The end seemed to try reaching towards something more heartfelt, but the sudden pivot felt disingenuous and unearned. The repetition of lackluster gags had this show feeling longer than its 60 minute runtime.

Sarah Ivanco brings huge energy and total commitment to Colum, a city pigeon trying to win back humanity’s affection in this wonderfully strange mix of clown, dance, audience interaction and actual pigeon facts. Some jokes landed harder for me than others, but when they hit, they really hit, especially one perfectly timed Gorillaz gag that had me howling. What surprised me most was the heart underneath all the silliness, with the show touching on belonging, self-worth and the idea that you shouldn’t have to prove your usefulness to deserve kindness. Weird, playful, unexpectedly thoughtful and definitely memorable.

I worked really hard like the carrier pigeons of yore to deliver yall this message. This show was great! It had everything, humor, education, emotion, great acting, audience participation. It was art! And I wasnt expecting it. I wasnt expecting the sexy pigeon show to make me feel stuff. The team should be very proud of what they created. More like this please!

I never thought I would say this, but I am now emotionally invested in a pigeon. A city pigeon. A city pigeon named Colum that is wanting to be the next star at the city fountain, to be exact.

A Sexy Pigeon show is a quirky, witty, and surprisingly energetic performance that turns an ordinary city pigeon into a hilarious theatrical experience. Sarah Ivanco brings so much energy to Colum, completely committing to the character and her mission to win back humanity's love for pigeons.

Some of the jokes had me absolutely hollering, especially the Gorillaz joke, as a Gorillaz fan myself, while others didn't land quite as well. Even so, Sarah's energy kept the show moving, and her audience interactions were something I definitely wasn't expecting. They made the performance feel spontaneous and kept everyone laughing in their seat.

And somehow, I actually learned a lot about pigeons. From the whole "rats with wings" reputation to the fact that pigeons and humans have something important in common: we both eat our feelings. Who knew?

A Sexy Pigeon Show is weird, playful, and full of personality. Not every joke landed for me, but when they did, they REALLY did. This was a very good show, and definitely one I won't be forgetting anytime soon.

Feels like a classic fringe show. Quirky, some audience participation, bits that landed tons of laughs and others not so much. The venue didn’t have ac and on a hot Sunday afternoon the stuffy interior air made me wishing it was a tighter 45 mins rather than an hour show.

Clever and fun. Great energy!

There were a lot of solid, funny moments that kept the show rolling with some unique humour and endless charm. I did feel it was aimless at times and didn't really lead up to/deserve the final act that the artist was driving toward, but that didn't stop it from being enjoyable overall and a delight!

Absolutely incredible performance. I understand why the opening show was sold out. Incredibly funny, incredibly relatable. I'll be thinking about this one for a long time (in a wonderful way).
