Funny but true. All aspects of motherhood, good and bad, put to music in a comical way. The cast was superb and the singing was outstanding. You should definitely go. Not just for women, men will enjoy it too.
Motherhood the musical, was amazing the powerhouse voices, the songs, the naive of a first time mom vs a seasoned mom, who knows nothing is ever going to be perfect. This was an amazing show for all moms and covered so many emotions and stages of being a mom.❤️
This show was put on by truly talented singers! The songs and stories took me from laughing out loud, to nearly crying with emotion, and then right back to laughter again. Every mother can relate to the experiences shared, and the actors brought it all to life perfectly. This was definitely the BEST fringe show I’ve seen this year! You gotta go see it!
Wonderful representation of the joys and struggles of motherhood. I went between laughing so hard it hurt and tearing up throughout, and the singing was amazing. Definitely a must see show!

Mothers are mothering– in a musical!
Motherhood: The Musical, A review by Andrea Noga for AYTC.
Motherhood: The Musical, created by Sue Fabisch, finds its place at Fringe with the Waterworks Players, a local theatre troupe based in Wetaskiwin. Put on with heart and joy by the players, this is a show that mixes comedy and tenderness, and mixes them well.
Motherhood: The Musical follows the baby shower of expecting first-time mother, Amy, as the moms in the neighbourhood welcome her into the club and swap stories about their experiences with motherhood. From divorce, to make-up soccer games, to balancing the work-child balance, the musical covers all that can come with the experience of raising children.
This production features an ensemble of talented female actresses, all portraying complex women. While the show includes many, many solo numbers, where the show really shines is in the ensemble moments. The actresses are all completely in tune with each other and play off each other well. While the score includes a few more songs than it needs, each actress brings something to the stage which is worth seeing. A standout performance comes from actress Kate Down, who plays “Tina”, a mom dealing with the new normal of her divorce. Down plays the role with a careful sensitivity, allowing the audience to empathize with her character, as well as showcasing an impressive vocal range. Down’s performance of the song “Every Other Weekend” is one of the more memorable of the character solos. April Lynn as “Amy” also delivers a strong performance, competently portraying the naivety and stress of the new mother.
The design, done by Kyra Thompson, was also a standout for this show, as the set was fairly developed for a Fringe production. The set brought us into the world of this baby shower, making the stage feel homely and real.
While all of the women showcased strong vocals, unfortunately the venue was having frequent microphone issues during my viewing which had a negative impact on the overall quality. I was lucky to be sat close to the stage, however even so I had difficulty hearing the lyrics when mics would cut out. It was a shame, as almost entire songs were missed as the mic for the lead vocal would malfunction. I hope this was an anomaly for the show I attended, as it unfortunately put a damper on great performances.
Mic issues aside, the passion and confidence on the faces of the full cast is something that did not need to be amplified. Every member of the cast brought a different and fun perspective to their respective characters. While the in-jokes and references make this show a little more enjoyable for mothers than the rest of us, there are still some great jokes that all of us can laugh at. The Waterworks Players are a group to watch!
Motherhood: The Musical plays at Holy Trinity Anglican Church.
This musical was an absolute delight! It had me laughing with so many moments that perfectly captured the ups and downs of being a mom. The humor was spot-on, heartfelt, and so relatable. Actors were fantastic with incredible voices! I would definitely recommend seeing it!!
As a Mom and new Grandma I thoroughly enjoyed all the phases of motherhood and relationships that the show took us through. The songs and vocals were great - especially the Boob song. No tech problems at tonight’s show. Highly recommend you see this show!
Delight to see, especially as a parent! Every comment and song touched on previous conversations I’ve had with girlfriends. Lots of laughs and tears- amazing energy and performers impressively belted it out!
Wow that brought back a lot of memories. Absolutely hilarious show!
Such an amazing and funny show! So relatable even if you don’t have kids. Would definitely recommend to anyone who wants a fun night at the Fringe!
Mark this on your must see Fringe list. Five talented women, take the story of motherhood to a new level. Well cast with professional vocals and choreography. A wonderful narrative on Motherhood that will make you laugh and cry, sometimes at the same time. Don't miss this great show.
The vocalists were all incredibly talented and took us on the journey of every stage of being a mom in hilarious and heartwarming fashion. The show is both real and lighthearted as it explores the highs, lows, challenges, and joys of being a mom at every stage of their kids' lives.
Wow — what a fun night! The actresses were incredible, with amazing vocals and so perfectly suited for their roles. The story was so relatable and really captured the hilarious craziness of motherhood — from those first baby days all the way to becoming a grandma. I spent most of the show laughing out loud, with a few teary-eyed moments mixed in. If you want to be entertained from start to finish, Motherhood The Musical is an absolute must-see!
The singing is phenomenal! Wait for the minivan song, and the bra song. Very talented, funny cast.
What a gem! Excellent acting and vocals and made me laugh so hard I nearly peed my pants ;) Watch with your mom friend, your mom or another mother in your life. loved this show, sad that the mic’s wouldn’t work but the ladies sang their hearts out anyway❤️
What a great and accurate depiction of motherhood! I laughed so much and maybe cried a little. The actresses were all great singers and played their parts well. I would go again!
The show is a relatable, funny comic that makes you think about what it is like to be in motherhood and starting motherhood and being a grandma. I would recommend it to everyone just their mics weren’t working quite as well as they should’ve been but otherwise. Give it a five out of five review really enjoyed it.
The cast seemed tight but there were so many problems with their sound that we were in the fifth row and missed half of what was said and sung. It appears their sound problems are a persistent problem. Sit in the first two rows if you go.
Sweet and heartwarming and funny. Any mom would enjoy this musical and all of stories it tells about being a mom and the motherhood experience. The actors were pretty decent singers but the sound system didn’t work so great.
I have to agree about the mic problems. Seriously, dude, get them fixed. If not for that, another star. Funny, brutally honest and sexy as hell: 3 mothers and one first timer explore the joys and tribulations of motherhood in story and song in an impromptu baby shower. As a not father uncle of seven, I laughed my butt off. And maybe cried a bit. Great performance.
An absolutely delightful show! The cast delivers the real and emotional rollercoaster of being a mom with well timed humour and amazing vocals. I loved the energy throughout! There were some great, yet subtle, one liners woven throughout which had me laughing out loud more times than I can count! The cast also nails the more serious numbers that had me misty eyed more than once. It’s a great venue to get sucked into the story. This is a show I highly recommend seeing and I plan to go it at least once more!
Loved it! The vocals were all very impressive, especially the actress playing Tina, she brought the house down with her powerhouse pipes! Hilarious and very relatable as a mum, I’m thinking of coming again with some gal pals. This was my favourite show of the Fringe so far!
Ugh technical mic problems can really drag the experience way down. Unfortunately it really made a significant difference in being able to hear the lyrics from this musical rendition of the highs and lows of motherhood. There were some great vocals and some moments that i certainly relate to being a mama myself. If you’re a mom and have a filler hour, this is a show that is as I expected it would be. Some funny one liners but nothing mind blowing. It does remind me to call my mom and pay myself on the back though.
