Splash Zone Survivor

Insurance fraud, secrets from the past, and testing how strong a relationship is. This show was dramatic and intense at times, but also hilarious. It used the venue space so perfectly to add to the story. A great addition to fringe. Getting to watch Waffle Bird was also an added bonus. Yum! Go 30 mins before to get your food and get a good seat near the window.

I will preface that I am biased given I’m such a fan of the Hogwarts universe that I have a deathly hallows tattoo. Saying that, this is exactly what I want a parody to look like. The show still had its own story, but also had plenty of jokes and comments geared towards the original content nerd. The writing, directing, acting, and vocals were well done. A particular standout was Hagrid. How could one ever not love him?! Young gay teacher Dumbledore was also hilarious. I love how this added more to explain how evil Tom ended up being. Lastly, I love that some proceeds of the show are going to trans support organizations, given the harm that the original content writer has done to that community.

Laughed So Hard I Cried

I expected educational techno pop fun learning about Eurovision and I got that, but I also got an honest look at the performers coming to being his most true self. That was an unexpected bonus. The performance shows that one can be open and honest with showing who they are and what they are passionate about in the most refreshing way. A delightful hour in the French district.

Laughed So Hard I Cried

This show about a past best friend of the bride going to her destination wedding in Mexico was funny, relatable, and also pulled at the heart strings. There is a Spotify soundtrack to go with the show my teenage self needs to download. I saw myself so much in the main character that it made me start questioning if I have a problem, but “it’s not a problem unless it’s a problem”. This one woman show never dragged or lulled. It was entertaining from start to end. Recommend!

Not My Cup of Tea

A show that highlights the positive mentality and underside beneath it that is pushed through multi level marketing scams. Some funny moments but also some songs that came out of nowhere and didn’t fit in my opinion. The acting was good with characters well developed. If you have had a family member get involved in an mlm (like me) then you might relate and also cringe at this show. If you have been a part of an mlm, go watch this to relive your trauma and also laugh at your past self while being proud of getting out of it!

Gruesome! Grotesque! Great!

The hype I heard about this play lived up to the show. The set, lighting, direction, writing, and acting was all expertly delivered. The packed house was gripped by every twist and turn of Victor and Victoria’s horrifying tale of terrible things (to come for them). Find a time to see this play and buy tickets early as it is sure to sell out. Fair warning though… make sure you’re stomach is up to hearing the tale!

Laughed So Hard I Cried

I really enjoyed the off broadway feel that I definitely expected with this show from NYC, but I did expect it to be much more about battling zombies than telling the rise and fall of the main character’s life. The music and lyrics were great. Vocals mostly hit the mark. Was not as dark as I hoped it would be.

See It Again

This thriller what happened to the missing pop star story was polished from start to finish. The actors were sharp and emotionally engaged. The storyline was gripping. I only got a little lost in the middle for a bit. Try to make it to this one. The place was pretty packed so I wonder if it might start selling out as more reviews come out.

Ugh technical mic problems can really drag the experience way down. Unfortunately it really made a significant difference in being able to hear the lyrics from this musical rendition of the highs and lows of motherhood. There were some great vocals and some moments that i certainly relate to being a mama myself. If you’re a mom and have a filler hour, this is a show that is as I expected it would be. Some funny one liners but nothing mind blowing. It does remind me to call my mom and pay myself on the back though.

Sexy Fringe Show

A beautiful storytelling of a love story in every way. The set and costumes were gorgeous highlighting the 20’s era the play is set in. The vocals for the songs performed were the best I’ve heard at Fringe (and I’ve seemed to be hitting a lot of musicals so far). The heartbreak of seeing a queer love story in a time when it wasn’t accepted was felt through the actors. I’d encourage all to come support and enjoy the love shared between V and Nettie!!
