Voldemort and the Teenage Hogwarts Musical Parody
***** Edinburgh Fringe Review. Before he was He Who Must Not Be Named, he was just Tom Riddle—a moody teen at Hogwarts. In this hilarious musical adventure, he navigates love, snake kisses, and Unforgivable Curses. Packed with magic, hormones, and a few murders, it’s a hilarious descent into darkness, hormones, and Horcruxes.
An outstanding performance! The confidence of the crew was impressive with how many hilarious dialogues there were! Sound design, set, and lighting were all perfect! Absolutely stunning of a show!
I will preface that I am biased given I’m such a fan of the Hogwarts universe that I have a deathly hallows tattoo. Saying that, this is exactly what I want a parody to look like. The show still had its own story, but also had plenty of jokes and comments geared towards the original content nerd. The writing, directing, acting, and vocals were well done. A particular standout was Hagrid. How could one ever not love him?! Young gay teacher Dumbledore was also hilarious. I love how this added more to explain how evil Tom ended up being. Lastly, I love that some proceeds of the show are going to trans support organizations, given the harm that the original content writer has done to that community.

Calling all witches and wizards! Come fly over and see Voldemort and the Teenage Hogwarts Musical Parody by DarkStage Productions. From the euphonious vocals to intricate choreography, you are in for a treat, or should I say “chocolate frog”!
The hilarious opening number gives no doubt that this performance is a parody. Tastefully sprinkled throughout were comedic timings, enhancing the enjoyment of the audience.
Though, the musical numbers were the true highlight of the show. A standout number was Jayden Leung (Tom Riddle) and Carly Pettitt (Muffin Rows), whose vocals shone along with their chemistry. The ensemble numbers were also a pleasure to behold, from the gorgeous blend of harmonies to detailed dance arrangements.
If you are curious about Tom Riddle’s backstory and like a whodunnit, Voldemort and the Teenage Hogwarts Musical Parody is the perfect show!

This show is a parody of the days before Harry Potter, when Voldemort was a student himself at Hogwarts. Also of note, this show does not condone or produce any revenues for the evil Jk Rowling - in fact they’re taking it one step further and donating a portion of proceeds to trans organizations locally.
This show is hilarious with Dumbledore (and the various other roles played by the actor) being a stand out! Another standout was the opera singing Hagrid (you’ll have to see it for the context!).
For our show, Friday evening, they did start late and finish about 7 minutes late as well - something to be mindful of if you’re planning back to back shows, but hopefully they clean that up as the run progresses!
All round a solid show!
This show should be a go for almost everyone.
First, it's worth addressing, this show is not for TERFs. It's an unlicensed and unauthorized parody and money from the production (https://www.instagram.com/p/DMwAT1ryMR1) will be donated to trans youth-empowering charities.
And, in the content of the show... there's not a lot that the original author would like. Some of the bits and characters feel a bit overwrought in the first quarter, but the show brings it back around and makes it all worth it.
Typically, the "irrelevant musical number from a side character that has no relevance in the show" is the worst part of a musical. In this one, the audience was in stitches.
It's clever, well-performed and full of easter eggs for Harry Potter fans, but perfectly accessible to those who only have a casual relationship with the franchise.
I liked it a lot.
