Laughed So Hard I Cried

This show was engaging and entertaining for the length of time it occupied the stage. The premise was that a professional comedian (played by Jon Blair) was trying to prove his worth in a post-apocalyptic world. The props and scenery helped with immersing the audience into the setting. For me, there was never a dull moment. Definitely a show worth seeing!

Okay, so the show could benefit from a bit more polish, but if you love Fringe then you know that you need to make some allowances. Like when a show set in the 1920’s makes such liberal use of slang from the time that it struggles to communicate with a modern audience. Or when the sound balance is not quite right and the music overpowers the singers’ voices. But in this case the excellent performance of physical comedy in the latter part of the play makes up for the slow start.

I really enjoyed the final result regardless, but I would love to see a more developed version of this show someday.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect from this show, but I am with the artist all the way. Sadly the venue was larger than needed, but the audience did their best with the singalongs despite being scattered among too many seats. The show took a bit to connect, but definitely gained momentum as it progressed. I thoroughly enjoyed the stories and the songs. If you are at all interested in Cher or Celine Dion and have the opportunity to see this one-woman show, just go! “The more the merrier” is not just a trite saying—it’s the plain and simple truth.

Laughed So Hard I Cried

I saw the play in 2025 so I knew I wanted to see it again this year as a musical. The important parts are largely unchanged, with some musical numbers added. For those who haven’t seen it, there’s also puppets and some awesome combat scenes. The climax still takes place at a Zehrs in Cambridge—leaving me with the same major question I had at the close of last year’s show: Preston, Hespeler, or Galt?

Not My Cup of Tea

Apparently I am just not a fan of mixed-up history, no matter how well performed. This show was not for me.

Things I did like: the horse lover, the cow (chewing the cud with resigned alacrity), the spiteful astronaut.

The rest was just okay. I’m talking about the story—such as it was, not really a story so much as a disconnected series of musical sketches—not the performers. The performers were committed and put their all into the show. I just wish the content of the show had appealed to me more.

See It Again

This is a story about enduring love. I come from British roots, so I identified strongly, but my husband’s German roots did not get in the way of his understanding. For anyone who has been together with their partner a long time, and gone through so many shared moments—both the good and the not-so-good—this story will resonate. This is the first Fringe show I have ever seen that brought me to tears. The performers are perfect in their roles. I want to sit down with a cuppa and a choccy bickie and experience the show again.

Mind Blown

This is the best Fringe musical I’ve ever seen. I’m in awe of the talented young performers and the professionalism of this show (a live band on stage providing the music!).

I never went to sleep-away camp myself, but my son went, moving through the ranks from Camper to CIT to Counsellor. It was interesting to see a coming-of-age story set in that environment.

If you’re a fan of musicals, I can definitely recommend this Fringe show as one worth seeing.

Laughed So Hard I Cried

Sketch comedy at its best, from a cast that knows their stuff. I honestly didn’t think I was the type of person who could find everything so funny—especially the cruder moments. But the insightful skewering of so many Fringe tropes was thoroughly entertaining. I highly recommend this show, especially if you are a veteran Fringe-goer or fan of sketch comedy.

Ten-tickles My Fancy

In the many categories of typical Fringe shows, I would consider this as “an earnest offering by seasoned players.” Everyone played their roles well, with the two leads (the Actor and the Retired Librarian) standing out. The story ended a bit abruptly and left me wanting more follow-up, but I guess the one-hour format can sometimes be challenging in that way.

I would not call this a “must-see” for everyone, but for those who like to sample a wide array of Fringe offerings, I can certainly recommend this play.

Not My Cup of Tea

The performance I attended did receive a standing ovation, so bear that in mind as you read my review.

I wanted to like this, but it didn’t do anything for me. A major part of the problem was the sound, which was inconsistent in quality and did little to enhance the visual spectacle. (I found it often worked against it.) I admire the strength and coordinated movement of the dancers, but there was no discernible story, and the chemistry among the performers was decidedly lacking—even though everyone was obviously committed and giving their all.

People who know dance firsthand will likely love this show. Non-dancers like me may take a bit more convincing.
