My name is Allan, and I am an Ickoholic.

I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. What a character, what a voice, what a fun show...is this what anonymous meetings are like? Sign me up!

There were a couple of pitchy moments, but, that had more to do with sound design and tech, because the show goes from no music, low mic, to full-on musical in a flash. If the mic is still low when the music is blasting, how can you hear yourself sing? Just sayin'...

Man, what a ride! You can cut the tension with one of those high-end German-made chef's knives - and still find it very sinewy; yet, it was still not as "heavy" as I thought it was going to be going into it...

There is A LOT going on here in terms of story, character motivation, and exposition (or, lack thereof). If you are like me and like to overthink what you just watched, and frequently fetishize dramaturgy, then, please enjoy your tea (i love me a static set with long silloquies/monologues!).

If you are not, and simply want to watch something well-acted, provocative, and unfolds like a rose on a dinner table for 2 on Valentines day, then, yes, your tea is steeped here, too.

EVERYONE needs to see this - the addicts, those who are "not addicts", and those that really aren't: the addicts will have a source of inspiration that is funny, not preachy, and relatable, but not hackneyed; those that think they've "got it under control" may find an eye opener in this, yet, know that it's OK, cuz if he can do it, anybody can (step 1, Acceptance); even the "normies" will get something out of this by better understanding what their loved one, neighbor, or coworker is going through.

Did i mention that it's darkly funny?

The synergy of Arturo/alex is a force to be reckoned with, from the artful story telling, to dynamic stage presence, to their comedic timing and tactful wall-breaking. Their art is just getting started, and can only get better with time.

Opening night slayed!

From the great script, to "the script", to the staging and the energetic stage presence, this perfectly-paced Ode to the 90s is so immersive that at one point I actually caught myself thinking Matt and Ben were on stage... no cap! (Low key, the last 2 words of that sentence - and the first 2 of this one - are my mid-life crisis' attempt to stay current)

There are tons of 90s references and inferences that gave me an alternating, steady stream of chuckles, chortles, giggles and guffaws. Whether you are like me and have vivid memories of this decade and the film it refers to, or if you were born well after it and the first film you've seen by either of these 2 characters was Gone Girl or even The Odyssey, this play slaps.

Mad props to the cast and crew, and a big shout out to The Fringe for giving us this gift of live performances every year!
