I was not expecting this to be as funny as it was. I also was not expecting it to make me ugly cry.
Really, what more could you ask for of a Fringe show, than to experience the full spectrum of human emotion over the course of an hour?
I've seen this show twice, across two Fringe festivals, two years apart. Which really is enough said, I think - few Fringe shows have been as memorable for me as Iggy Beamish.
Johnnie McNamara Walker is an incredible actor/storyteller with impeccable comedic timing, the script is clever and wonderfully queer, I really couldn't ask for more in a Fringe show.
I brought my very own divorced dad to see this show with me, and I'm not sure either of us knew what to expect, and yet somehow it definitely exceeded those expectations.
This is probably the most ambitious show I've seen at Fringe this year in terms of the cast size, costuming, props, lighting, sound... And everybody involved absolutely crushed it.
The cast's comedic timing was amazing, and the chemistry they had together made the relationships believable and added some heart and depth to what would otherwise be a very goofy show. The soundtrack was killer, and gave the show a very Scott Pilgrim-esque vibe.
If you're a fan of punk music, you're into nerd culture, have a divorced dad or are one yourself, or you're looking for something that's unlike anything else you'll see at the festival this year, see this show. You won't regret it.
My favourite type of Fringe shows are immersive ones, where the audience becomes a part of the experience, and The Bone House may be the best I've seen in the category.
The audience was riveted - at one point a character comments on the sounds from the audience, but we were silent, collectively on the edge of our seats. I don't think I've ever felt so unsettled at a show as I did here.
The "horrible secret" of Crowley's mentioned in the show description was not at all what I expected, and probably not what you're expecting either.
If you like learning about true crime, you enjoy scary movies, you're a fan of immersive theater, or you just want to relive your university days and attend a lecture, you can't go wrong here.
