Anatomica: A Comedy About Meat, Bones, & The Skin You're In

WHAT IS THE BEST TYPE OF SKELETON? This hilarious, captivating & sometimes-unsettling solo comedy questions everything about the body. Part stand-up & part storytelling, ANATOMICA is a gloriously deranged Ted-Talk by a wanna-be scientist who dropped out of college to go to clown school. ***** - The Edmonton Journal 2023 Holdover

See It Again

Amica is a delightful performer. Every year they make it to the Fringe, I make sure I set aside time to come to whatever show they're putting on. Anatomica is a bit more contemplative than some of Amica's other work and, I think, resonates with the audience all the more because of that personal story they're bringing to the table. I've seen this show 2 1/2 times (the first time, I got almost an entirely different show as Amica had locked all of the props in their vehicle) over two separate festivals with various friends now, and I'd probably go to see it again given the chance!

Amica had me hanging on every word and every long, wet breath into the mic. They're a truly exceptional performer, and were completely connected to the room the entire time. With every new skeletal structure they adopted, I could feel the audience drawn in more and more. This show has more tubes than any other show I've seen. Show aside, I think the chairs in this venue really added to the experience and helped the audience empathize with the performer's discomfort.

I love everything about this show! Watching Amica sharing the stories made me feel so emotional I laughed so hard but also cried. Love her zines too. Would definitely recommend this show to my friends!

Seeing Anatomica has been on my bucket list, and I'm so happy this was the show I finally got to see.

I have a loved one with fibromyalgia and she is constantly having to defend her pain and her fatigue, and seeing someone on stage, saying this is what it is and this is what it feels like and it's real was extremely heart-warming to see.

I laughed out loud, I got chills (the kind you get when something hits the emotional funny bone, so to speak), I teared up, I learned, and in the end, I walked away with a bit more understanding than I had before... And I think that's an amazing gift the entire audience got to share.

THERE'S NO SNOOZING IN THIS ANATOMY CLASS! By: Syenne Ko

With their back turned to the audience and on a squeaking chair, Amica Hunter, the star of Anatomica, entered the stage. This unusual entrance sparked the beginning of this personal and slightly unnerving comedy.

Though this performance has an unsettling premise, Hunter made the audience feel at ease with numerous interactive moments.

Like in most biology classes, I learned many new facts - but Hunter kept me engaged with hilarious analogies and vivid explanations.

So, if you want to learn something new and be amused, look no further; Anatomica: A Comedy About Meat, Bones, & The Skin You're In is at the Edmonton Fringe until August 24.

Anatomica is a very personal show dealing with chronic pain. But it made me laugh and feel all the feelings.

As Amica combined storytelling and clown to explore the question of what is the best kind of skeleton to have. As much as Amica asks if the audience is comfortable, and has a few items to help, it's really hard to get comfortable. This venue is in the basement of Holy Trinity where you are sitting on a flat floor with a stage in front but you are on the plastic foldable chairs. No matter how much I enjoy, a show it is really hard to get comfortable (and makes you very aware of your own skeleton).

There will be questions asked to the audience and a few people will be singled out but found it mostly you could choose to interact or stay behind the 4th wall. I really enjoy the description of the crawfish and great visual body and language so you could really see the images that were being told. I would just love different chairs.

Laughed So Hard I Cried

Possibly my favourite Fringe show EVER. If you don't like this show, we wouldn't get along.

Anatomica takes you on a wild, weird, constantly entertaining ride about the horrors of having a body (no matter the type of skeleton).

Expertly interactive, utterly hilarious, vulnerably odd, Anatomica is everything you could want in a theatre show.

SEE IT!
