I can’t believe that happened. Or did it? Maybe I’m still dreaming. If I am, I don’t want to wake up.

He is one of the longest people I’ve ever seen (complimentary). I am in awe.

This was the very first show I saw this year and it is the epitome of fringe! Scrappy young artists with a small budget and a big dream.

There were a handful of dramaturgical/acting things that had me dropping out at times, but the EXCEPTIONAL set/props would rope me in again in a flash. I can't recall the last time I was that genuinely surprised in a theatre show. I don't want to reveal too much but there were a number of really delightful physical gags with the actor who played the deer/etc. and I would've loved to have seen more of that tone throughout the whole show as the dialogue between Velma and Daphne felt clunky and slow at times and left me waiting for the next thing. Generally the dialogue/acting was all much less big and cartoon-y than I was expecting due to the source material of those characters, but that just might not be the direction they wanted to go in.

TLDR: Definitely a new work, but a very fun premise and UNBELIEVABLY creative set/props/puppets (literally jaw-dropping).

Sexy Fringe Show

This is a quintessential fringe show and you need to go see it. The script itself definitely feels new, and while things felt perhaps a bit stumbly especially near the end (endings are hard), it still has plenty of delightful legs to stand on. Or the normal number of legs. They're good legs. And it has good feet. They're not weird at all. I promise.

Special shout out to the shining star of this ensemble: Michael Watt. His papal performance made me want to believe in God, or made me believe that he IS God or at least could be if he wanted to. Watt's command of the stage is unparalleled. You wouldn't even have to bribe me to elect him as pope.

Ten-tickles My Fancy

Amica had me hanging on every word and every long, wet breath into the mic. They're a truly exceptional performer, and were completely connected to the room the entire time. With every new skeletal structure they adopted, I could feel the audience drawn in more and more. This show has more tubes than any other show I've seen. Show aside, I think the chairs in this venue really added to the experience and helped the audience empathize with the performer's discomfort.

Mind Blown

While we love to put shows in categories, you can hardly call this a storytelling show because it completely and utterly transcends the form. I started crying a few minutes in and didn't stop nearly the entire time. His stories and songs (whether "true" or not) will make you feel deep and un-nameable things. This show reminded me that I exist. What Paul manages to do in this hour is otherworldly and it left me speechless (I attempted to tell him how I was feeling afterwards and I don't know if I succeeded at all because none of the words I could get out felt big enough).
