You never know what you're going to get with this one 🤣 but I was totally disarmed by the false start of our "guide" being pulled out of the office only moments before we began. From there the "two truths and a lie" (or maybe more like one truth and five lies) game began and I was in stitches realizing how gullible I can be. If all else fails you're on a boat in False Creek? How can you go wrong.

Was very grateful to snag a ticket for this - it sells out very quickly and with good reason. This show is a prime example of well-executed site-specific theatre. The show is set in a car, and indeed, is enhanced and informed at all times by this setting. I was blow away by how certain scenes were directed - so dynamic - and a favourite moment was being able to see just a characters eyes through the rear-view mirror. Engaging, thoughtful, great performances. I hope they're back next year, and hope that they continue to create this kind of out-of-the-theatre theatre.

Hip.Bang! never miss. I'm always so interested to see how far Devin and Tom will push the technological limits of a show and this one is incredibly ambitious and so fascinating. Of course, regardless of what's happening on the tech side these comedy stalwarts deliver non-stop laughs and an incredible warmth and comfort on the stage that only comes from years (over a decade now I believe!) in working together. You'll want to see this one.

There are so many reasons why you should see this show. Thematically - profound and funny, with razor-sharp commentary and increasingly layered depth. Absurdity reflecting reality in a perfectly fringe-y mirror. Performances - this ensemble are so tight. If you saw last year's "It's not the End of the World" you will be thrilled to see the return of this all-female ensemble. Each actor does a spectacular job of shining in their moments and supporting each other when not taking the lead. Mask/Puppetry - the exceptional skill displayed throughout the show is world-class. I've never seen a two-handed puppet so beautifully executed in "The Boy", worth the price of admission alone. The story - Painfully relatable and accurate. The ending was surprisingly emotional, very understated and yet completely profound. I don't want to spoil anything but happy to chat about it once you've seen the show 😉 This playwright and ensemble are really the "ones to watch" when it comes to the Vancouver alternative theatre scene. I can't wait to see what they come up with next.
