Rodgers and Hammerstein's ROBOCOP: The Musical

WOW WOW WOW!!!!!! This is the best show at the Fringe this year!!! This large cast was insanely talented!!! The vocal performances, the choreography, the costumes!! Especially the RoboCop costume! I absolutely LOVED the dance sequences! Jason was a huge standout with his vocal range and dancing. I can’t say enough about how well done this musical was!! I LOVED IT!!!

Where else could you see a show like this except at Fringe? The songs had me howling with laughter and the entire cast was giving 110%. If you can get a ticket to see it - DO IT.

I have never, ever seen Robocop, and honestly never planned to. I have seen and/or listened to many Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, but while I love musical theatre there has never been an R&H show that ranked in my top 10 musicals. With all of that in mind, I left this show buzzing with laughter, excitement, and a very strange desire to watch both Robocop and South Pacific.

Not only is this production packed with strong vocalists, incredible dancers, and stellar acting (a lot of which comes from emerging, local talent in the Edmonton theatre scene), but it is also SMART. The musical theatre references are clear and recognizable enough that the audience is laughing even at the underscoring, and I can only assume the Robocop references are similarly seamlessly integrated. A massive credit to the writers, as this level of understanding indicates a strong respect and knowledge of both properties. The kicker was a HILARIOUS (to me) shot at The Pajama Game, a killer reference for any lovers of musical theatre history.

This cast is top notch and also clearly understand the classic musical theatre vocal style they have been tasked with reviving (considering the contemporary musical theatre vocal style that has taken over the stage in recent years). Stand-out vocal performances from Andrew Boyd, Sarah Kyle, and David Widder-Varhegyi, and a STELLAR blend of harmonies and vocal cameos from the entire ensemble.

Finally, I have to recognize and celebrate the DREAM BALLET. Never before has there been such an effective use of a dream ballet, and it was impeccably choreographed and performed in a way that fully justified a break from the normal pace of the plot but stayed oh-so-entertaining the entire time. I can't state enough how much I enjoyed it.

The sound in this venue needs some work. Mics cutting in and out really dampens the experience of a performance, especially if you’re sat further back.

Despite the technical difficulties, I could see this show being a hit with a broad audience. Performers give it their all, costumes are stunning, set is intricate as far as Fringe plays go, and there’s even a dream ballet. It’s a very well-rounded show.

Personally, I’m think I’m just not a big fan of a parody musical. For what this was, this creative team absolutely nailed it and operated at the top of their game and I’m glad I went to see it. The talent in this team is undeniable. It’s not their fault that it didn’t quite resonate with me this time.

The folks at Cousins-In-Law Theatre have done it yet again with arguably the show of the 2026 Edmonton Fringe Festival

And unfortunately, for you, as of this writing, the rest of the run is entirely sold out and you can only hope to see it in holdovers. Should such circumstances allow.

They succeed because they are true to the details of the genre while also giving viewers accurate representations of the IP their performing. They know what works about both sides of the coin.

Fantastic Everything. The songs, the dancing, the story, and all the wgite powder!! I was heavily entertained. I love a good 80s action movie turned into a hilarious musical. Well done 👏

If this show isn't held-over, I will print out this review and eat it.

The Cousins In Law production sold out its entire run at Fringe and with an on-stage cast of eleven (!!!) they will be making about a dollar, and two bits each.

The show was a love-letter to Rodgers and Hammerstein, Robocop, 90s movies, and bad jokes. It's got surprisingly good dance numbers, costumes that themselves add to jokes and so, so much cocaine.

Coupled with this troupe's "SPEED!" A 1940's Radio Drama's sold-out run last year, Robocop has cemented Cousins In Law's shows as must-buy every year.

Hey, just what ROBOCOP has been waiting for, a lush melodic score by the musical theatre superstars Rodgers and Hammerstein. You've got to be kidding, I know, crazy, right? A lunatic marriage made in ... the mad mad comedy brains of Cousins In Law.... (read the full 12thnight review!)

An incredible performance from the entire cast. The script was fantastic, the music and singing were a delight, the jokes were hilarious, and the cast looked like they were loving every second of it. I highly recommend seeing this if you’re able. So far, it’s the best show I’ve seen at the Fringe this year.

What a fun hour! These folks took on a bunch of our most favourite Rogers and Hammerstein tunes and mashed them up with a cult classic movie. The result was an afternoon romp that made my day.

I mean, it’s not going to win any Tony’s but who the hell cares. This is just what The Fringe needs more of.

And it sure is nice to see a full cast on stage (I think there are 8 actors on stage? Don’t quote me).

The show was certainly helped out by some really great voices including Mother Superior singing a version of “Climb Every Mountain” in full falsetto. And they didn’t lower the key for him. Impressive.

Loved the choreography that sent up the dances out of nowhere of movie musicals but were done well enough for me to take them seriously.

Thanks again for the great time and glad that you’re selling out your shows.

A true high camp experience. No review can do justice to how fantastically funny and earnest this show is. There are too many standout performers to name without naming the whole cast.

So much voice talent on the stage was striking and some very great jokes. I loved the Rodgers and Hammerstein connections and trying to pick out the original songs but you can definitely enjoy this if you don't know any of the source material. There were some tech issues with the mics and sound effects but they didn't really affect my enjoyment. The rendering of RoboCop was fantastic!

If you've managed to get a ticket for this, you are in for a TREAT. I loved this so much, and I hope it gets a holdover.

The musical theatre references are perfect (I will never view Oklahoma and the Sound of Music the same way again), the singing was excellent, and the costume details/props were great. The entire audience this afternoon was in stitches from laughing so hard, and everyone basically leapt to their feet to give a well-deserved standing ovation at the end.

This show was more than just a cop-out—it was a robo-riot!

Cousins in Law Productions brings the ridiculous premise of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ROBOCOP: The Musical to life, imagining what the classic action film would look like with the musical treatment of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Following RoboCop as he navigates crime, corruption, and his new life as part-man, part-machine (and obviously, all-cop), the show is packed with absurdity and humour.

The cast’s strong vocals were one of the production’s biggest highlights, adding impressive musical energy to an intentionally ridiculous story. The physical comedy was equally effective, with the performers fully committing to the exaggerated style of the show. The cast also worked seamlessly together during set changes, keeping the action moving without disrupting the pace.

While the concept alone is hilarious, the commitment of the performers is what makes the production work. ROBOCOP: The Musical knows exactly how silly it is and embraces it wholeheartedly.

If you enjoy campy comedy and ridiculous musicals, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ROBOCOP: The Musical is worth checking out!

We should’ve bought tix for the late show on Sat when we had the chance. Saw it on Fri and it was a great musical with fantastic performances by all. Fun, fast, and energetic!

Would def recommend watching again…if you get the opportunity :)
